09 hyundai discount + 0% financing

Looking at purchasing a 2nd car, thinking should I go the used car route, no or very little warranty left or buy new and take a big hit as soon as I drive it off the lot. I can get in a 09 Elantra L auto taxes in for 16450 and 0% financing for 36 months, $457 pm with 0 down. Elantra seems to get pretty good reviews out there and I havent checked the civic lately but Im looking at 5grand more for one.

Want to make sure we get this straight before it gets posted. You can get any of these cars on that page at the 'Smart to Buy' price and get 0% financing at the price. If so, unless I'm missing something, that's very hot for some of these vehicles.

Off topic i have a 07 Elantra (the first year of the new model) and i love it besides the lack of an ipod hook up/aux jack in the stereo its been perfect for me. Fairly reasonable on gas as well. Being able to get the cash discount price AND finance at 0% is a pretty hot deal so far as i'm concerned. I wonder however if the cash discount applies to all trims of a given model or just the specific one listed.

I switched from a 02 Civic to a 07 elantra (i did not like the new look/dash of the civic) and i've been totally satisfied.

In the 'fine print' it would seem the cash discount is only available on specific trims (all the manual transmissions)

not sure on what the requirements are for the 0% financing, but if there's no hidden catch then it's a great deal. hyundai has made great strides in building quality vehicles. i may not like everything about their cars but it's hard to beat some of the prices, especially with 0% financing -- no reason to buy used if you can get a new car with warranty.

Am I wrong or isn't 'Delivery and Destination Incl' basically freight and pdi included in that price?Otherwise the prices don't seem to add up, for the Sonata they list a starting price of $23,560, but the most basic Sonata is only $21,995.... so I imagine all you have to add is ~ $1000 for auto, plus tax.

I drove the '09 Sonata a few months ago, was pretty impressed with it. I'd imagine this is a Hyundai rebate to the dealer, so you could probably negotiate further on the cars?

On the question of residuals - think about the situation in 4 years time say - current improved reliability that Hyundai is starting to get a reputation for becomes an accepted and feeds into residuals on existing used stock, plus the big 3 are no more or have significantly upped their game and their prices, meaning no more cheap new cars and better residuals for quality used vehicles.

This deal looks a much better offer than the GM and Chrysler ones posted here right now.

I learned to drive in an Elantra about 10 years ago and thought it was a great little car back then! I always thought it would be nice car to own and I'm sure they've improved it a bit in ten years.. Hyundai has come a LONG way in terms of quality and reliability - my sister has a four year old Tiburon that has been rock solid. The one thing to consider though is that consumer confidence in Hyundai hasn't improved as much as the cars themselves have - so they don't hold their value as well as say a Honda or Toyota. If this is a car you're going to buy to drive until the wheels fall off, don't look back, but if you plan on trading it in later the trade in values aren't spectacular. I have an 08 Elantra that I picked up in the summer at 0% financing. No catch. The car is all that and a bag of chips (where the chips in the 08 include an AUX jack). The car doesn't have a the jump of the Mazda3, but is a much more solid, comfortable ride. The interior is very clean and classy. Well designed all around. My buddy has an 08 and an 09 Corolla, and those cars get slightly better gas mileage than the Elantra, but they both have a very light, cheap feel to them as you drive or even just sit in them. I can't comment on reliability of the Elantra of course, but based on the word from all the "experts", it looks very positive.
