I was able to negotiate $5100 off MSRP on a 2009 Santa Fe Limited or GLS AWD in the GTA area.
I haven't pulled the trigger yet as I'm in Windsor and haven't had the chance to go to my local dealer and test drive and pick a colour.
If anybody is interested in the name of the salesman or dealership I mentioned to him I had some friends that may want the same deal and he said to have them call. PM me and I will give you the info.

5100, thats good, in St. John's NL, forget it, dealers are making record sales, they will only do what the manufacture is offering... POS!

after many months of research (thanks to everyone on rfd for their helpful posts) I just picked up an 09 santa fe gls FWD with cargo screen/cover and wheel locks for roughly $32000 out the door (in the GTA). Chose the 5yr finance at 0.9% . I test drove and compared the rav4, crv, venza, mdx (just for fun, nice ride but I cant justify an extra $20-$30g's for a vehicle with similar size).
the rav4 and crv were nice but they were a bit too narrow, I installed a car seat in the back middle position and can comfortably have 2 people sit on the sides. i must say the rav4 was a rocket to drive. lots of power but I dont think I need to go 0-100 in 6.2 seconds with a baby in the car.
the interior of the crv was nice but i was not a fan of the underpowered 4cyl.
the venza was very tempting but the trunk space was limited with the sloping roofline. the wheel wells also took a bit of space and Toyota favoured to have an overkill amount of legroom to the rear seats which sacrificed more cargo room.
although the 20" rims looked sweet, it wont be fun times replacing the tires and/or getting winter tires for it.
i can fit our bugaboo stroller length-wise easily on one side of the santa fe's cargo area. can still fit tons of bags/groceries on the left half.
the rav4, crv and venza would also be well over $10g's more with similar options if you take into account their higher financing rates.
I came to a conclusion that the santa fe was simply the best vehicle for our requirements and budget! its quiet, lots of useable space inside, decent power/handling/ride quality AND excellent safety ratings which is important for me with my baby in the back. awesome crossover for the money.
the leather seats will come in handy for spills, the stereo is very good which also comes with a usb connection for my ipod and xm satellite for 3 months. the interior fit and finish is amazing, fully loaded minus navi. (I have my $100 tom tom one for that)
the trunk is massive and there is a very cool understorage compartment as well.
my only dislikes of the vehicle are the 16" wheels. they look like castor wheels to me. but i can live with that. ive owned 3 japanese cars in the past and I finally caved in and bought a Hyundai. so far so good.
if anyone has any questions feel free to pm me.

Congrats, it's a great vehicle. I've had mine for a year now and no issues so far. I have 18' summer tires but downsize to 16 for snows.

that one in paticular was a LX, but it had a sports package on it...but there was another user that got a EX for $25ish before taxes....so around 28 on the road...which is the top of the line, without leather.

thats for an CRV LX. CASH Price. 2008 model, very limited selection. you can also get a 2009 entry model santa fe for $25k otd and still take advantage of their 0% financing/4 years or .9/5 years.
anyway like I said, in order to get leather/sunroof I was comparing the santa fe gls with the crv ex-l model.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the average discount people were getting in that forum was for $5500, CASH price
35190 - 5500 + 1560 + 175 air/gas tax + 150 licensing.
=$35679 OTD.
bank car loans are in the 8-9% range but lets just say you scored a rate of 5.9% or got an unsecured line of credit at that rate.
thats another $5600 in interest over the 5 years.
im also a heavy ipod user. the ipod dock on the crv is an extra $350.
to be honest after having the santa fe for a few days already, even if I could have gotten the crv at the same price I would still pick our santa fe.

I have an 06 Honda Civic coupe (new model) with a 110K on it. I love it. I can't believe how well it has held its value. I have the 5-speed manual and its passing power is phenomenal. I love the quality of materials used, in the dash, seats and engine.
You know how some cars tend to whine or complain about being floored? Well the Civic loves being held between 4,500 and 6,500 rpms. As long as you are in that range you can put the pedal down and boy the car will take you for a ride. But don't bother flooring it around 2,000 rpm because you won't go anywhere.
I drive it rough and I have done nothing to it but air filter and oil. I get around 660km off 45L on average. Everything far surpasses my expectations for an entry-level vehicle.
But now my fiance wants a family friendly vehicle with an automatic transmission.
Not sure I'll be satisfied with Hyundaii, despite the great reviews. Buying a Civic sedan to replace my coupe sounds smart, but boring since I've been blessed with a 5-speed this whole time.

just got a new 7-seater Santa Fe Limited last week, $36500 OTD (with bush bar, chrome side-step, hood deflector, top cross-bars and rubber mat) for the upcoming big family. love the exterior style, interior design and fit, roomy trunk and flexible 3rd-row.
i was planning on getting a toyota, but after reading the reviews and testing driving the car, just fell in love with hyundai. it looks small and nimble comparing to the highlander, but has amazing inside space, and most important drives like a sedan.
only thing concerned is the trip computer keeps telling me the fuel consumption is around 15liter/100km - is it accurate? because according to spec it should be 2 liter less. btw, i'm not a heavy driver.
also dealer only gave me 2 sets of keys, isn't it supposed to be 3?

+1 on the fuel consuption computer and 2 sets of keys. not sure how accurate the readings are but I'm currently at 400km with a quarter left in the tank. If I can get atleast 550 with a tank of gas I'll be happy. keep in mind its the winter and its a brand new car. should get slightly better in a few months.
only thing I think I should have picked up is the cargo tray. does anyone know if you can still open up the under storage easily with this tray?

out the door with 0% financing for 3 years. Love the car and only thing missing is a remote starter for those cold winter mornings.
