1-866-*********
Anyone know what this number is? They call me every day, and when I answer, there's no one there. It's only recently, since I started signing up for things on RFD, so I suspect that it's something I signed up for here. I've called the number and left my number on their "removal" line, but I still keep getting the calls.
Over the last week, I've left a message every time they call, asking them to remove me from their list. Still no luck. Anyone know who this is, or what I can do to prevent them from calling? They always seem to call at a bad time, like when my daughter is taking a nap, or when I'm taking a nap, or when I'm up to my armpits in something...

If you wait for a while (up to 45 seconds), they'll usually start playing a recording, asking you to call some other toll free number. Call that one and tell them to take you off all thier lists.

How do you block a number calling you? And best yet, how do you block a number with a blocked number?

Phone the phone company or call the operator and tell them what's going on.
Edit: This happened to me once with someone's fax machine always calling my number. First the phone company tried faxing them. Then they called whoever it was registered to. And when it still didn't stop, they called again and indicated legal action (it is considered harassment), and all the calls suddenly stopped.

Try waiting a couple mins... It might be a company with a very poorly tuned algorithm on a dialing system... I once managed a dialer... Dialers usually start to call customers before an agent is available to even speak to you... They do this to keep things moving and usually base it on the average agent call-time. If its poorly tuned, if the agents are all of a sudden taking longer on their previous calls, or if you answer your phone substantially faster than the average person no agent will be available for a few seconds..

Nov 16th, 2005 07:10 PM #9It's definitely a dialer. It calls between 11:30 and 12:00 daily. Instead of my daughter waking up happy from her nap, she gets woke up by the phone, which negatively affects her attitude and mine. I wait on the line each time, because I'd like to have the opportunity to tell someone off, but the dialer hangs up after 15-20 seconds.

Nov 16th, 2005 07:38 PM #12Someone is running the dialer very poorly. Another dialer setting is to abandon the call if they cant get to it within a certain period of time. A good dialer operation would have put some sort of message in place if they can't answer it in time .. eg "Please hold for an important message from xxxx". They should also be reviewing how poor their abandonment rate is and fix it.

I believe is more of an issue where their system is looking for a machine message, then plays it's message. And so when a voice answers, the system will determin that it is, it will give dead air/hang up. I would recommend having it go to machine, where a message will be left (with a call back number), and then you can call them back and tear them a new one.

Nov 16th, 2005 09:05 PM #14Ahh, yea, you might be right. I got a few calls like this also, it would only ever leave messages... Saying "Are you having debt troubles"... Geeze, twice a day for a while... You are probably right, its probably an agent-less call center operation.
