Thanks op, signed up, but I HBC points don't really mean much IMO. You need 200,000 points to get $20 off on your travel voucher (ouch)

Which is precisely why every HBC point you can get your hands on is a good thing
And of course you'll continue to earn more HBC points if you continue to respond to their survey requests.
In terms of HBC point redemptions, I find that the best bang for the buck is to get Cineplex movie vouchers. Consider that the cost of a movie is $13 (in Toronto) and it "only" takes 70,000 points to get one Cineplex movie voucher - the redemption ratio is 1.85 x better than getting the travel voucher. Although I do understand that YMMV depending on where you live and the local cost of a movie._______________

you can convert hbc points to airmiles. I do this because I'll never have enough hbc point to get anything.
from airmiles.ca
Is it possible to redeem my Hbc Rewards points for AIR MILES® reward miles?
Yes, you can automatically convert your HBC Rewards points at the HBC family of stores such as The Bay, Zellers and Home Outfitters or on-line at hbc.com
Hbc Rewards points can be redeemed for AIR MILES reward miles at a rate of 2,000 points to 1 AIR MILES reward mile (A minimum of 40,000 Hbc Rewards points is required to redeem for AIR MILES).Last edited by dq14; Jan 20th, 2012 at 08:09 PM.

Redeeming HBC Rewards points to get Air Miles is one of the most inefficient things you could do with them. Here's an example.
It's not exactly apples-to-apples, but seeing as how groceries and petrol are both things the average consumer purchases on a regular basis, I think it's close enough:
- It "costs" 175 Air Miles to get a $20 Metro gift card.
- Therefore transferring 2,000:1 for HBC:AirMiles means that the notional value of a $20 Metro gift card is 350,000 HBC points.
- On the other hand, it costs 230,000 HBC points to get one $25 ESSO gift card, which works out to 184,000 HBC points for $20 worth of ESSO.
- Conclusion: you're losing 47.4% of the value of an HBC point every time you transfer it to Air Miles.
Make sense?
Of course, you may have other priorities that make a compelling case for transferring HBC points to Air Miles, but the above analysis speaks for itself.Last edited by ronin1701; Jan 21st, 2012 at 06:06 PM. Reason: Changed "worst" to "most inefficient" - thanks Ovechkin1 !

Oh, I forgot to mention:
In your post you say that you never have enough HBC points to get anything, so you convert them to Air Miles, but you can only transfer a minimum of 40,000 HBC points at a time.
Are you aware that you can get a Cineplex free adult admission voucher for only 70,000 HBC points?
In my opinion, given that a regular Cineplex adult admission (at most Toronto locations anyways) costs $13, then redeeming HBC rewards for movie tickets is probably the best value redemption they offer. Even if you counter that you can get those same vouchers for $8.50(?) from CAA, let's look at the math here:
If $8.50 = 70,000, then $1 = 8,235, or $20 = 164,705 (comparing to my $20 gift card example above).
If $13 = 70,000, then $20 = 107,692!
Sick isn't it? Well, it gets worse:
Redeeming Air Miles to get a $50 HBC Gift Card costs 440 Air Miles.
Did you know that you can get a $50 HBC gift card direct from HBC Rewards by redeeming 400,000 HBC points?
Given that it costs 2,000 HBC points to get one Air Mile, it effectively costs 440 x 2,000 = 880,000 HBC points to get that same gift card from Airmiles.ca if you're using your transferred HBC rewards to do so - a whopping 120% premium!Last edited by ronin1701; Jan 21st, 2012 at 03:03 PM.
