i THINK the permit has information on ur insurance stuff... because when i got mine they asked for my insurance information. but after the woman at the counter asked for it, she asked her manager some qusetions which i didn't hear and the manager said they don't need my insurance info...
but u need insurance to drive anyway...
i don't think u can get another permit... because i was told u are only allowed one for every purchase or every few months or sumthin

10 DayVehicle Trip Permit
Hey I have a question so I bought a car but the guy had to drive it here so we could complete the sale now he had to get the temporary liscence plate so that he could drive it here now heres where my question comes in.
Am I allowed to drive the car with the Trip permit to get the safety done, emission done etc.? or do I have to get insurance first then get my own trip permit.
I want to know becuase I would prefer to use this one becuase that way I dont have to pay another amount to get another trip permit and that way It will be better because for me to get insurance I first need a safety certificate and I would prefer not to tow the car.

The DMV took my insurance info down (or at least asked me about it) before they forked over the permit to me this past summer.
I think they ask for it in the 10 day permit application form do they not?Last edited by mudmojo; Nov 30th, 2005 at 07:13 PM. Reason: typo

Insurance is required to get a 10 day trip permit (in Ontario, at least). After that, make sure you do all ur e-testing, certification, etc etc in those 10 days, cuz they wont let you renew again (yes, I've tried). When you get the temp permit, bring proof of insurance, and the ownership papers.

You need to have your own insurance, and your own trip permit to legally drive it.
The minimum fine now for driving with no insurance is $5,000, the small fine your firiend got must have been for failing to produce proof of insurance when pulled over. He still would have had to have gone to the station afterwards to show he was in fact insured.

ok
ok thanks so i cant use it without insurance I guess its either having it towed to get a safety or pushing it, what would be the reasoning with pushing it to the canadian tire its about 10 minutes walking time and you can go through a small street?

When I bought my used car, first, I called around for insurance quotes. When I settled on an insurer, they faxed me proof of insurance (it basically has my name, address, policy no, effective & expire dates, and VIN number of car). I took it to MTO with the ownership (filled out on the back) and UVIP (filled out). I got my 10-day and then went to get SSC and etest. 10 days is plenty of time to get all that done.
