When you apply for the smart cash card or the platinum plus credit card, you get a $100 gift card. It seems that there is no minimum spending amount required. You can choose your gift card from the following options: ToysRus, Amazon.ca, Futureshop, or Boston Pizza.

I just applied for the smart cash card, and planning to use the gift card at Futureshop towards the Nexus 10.

Why? GCR constantly gives away $60-100 for signing up, I don't see a $100 gift card being unbelievable. Keep in mind that TD bank just purchased MBNA and is really pushing people to sign up for these cards so they can advertise at the higher rate, which is being slashed in December.

Well, when I applied it took me to the regular mbna application page. I also got an email saying that once approved I will be sent the gift card within 5-15 business days. It seemed normal to me.

Then that was a waste of time. You only get the GC if approved by MBNA: "After your application has been approved, RateSupermarket.ca will take 5-15 business days to process your offer and email you your free gift card."
