1999 Camry: Need to upgrade audio - deck, speakers, or subwoofers?

I have a 1999 Camry CE from original deck and speakers and stuff. The sound quality sucks so I am looking to replace it. For someone who knows so little about cars, I would need someone to do it for me. Any suggestion? If I buy everything from Futureshop or Bestbuy, anyone know how much they charge? Should I replace all 3 (deck, speakers, subwoofers) or just a few? What should I look for when I buy them? Sorry I have so many questions, I am quite new with car so I don't know a lot.

The basic installation at bestbuy or futureshop starts somewhere between $40 - $49.99 for just a basic installation, so I am guessing it's just a pair of speakers or the deck, etc.

If you walk into futureshop/bestbuy, you can talk to them and maybe get cheaper price on the installation.

when I got my stereo installed, The guy said he gave me a discount on installation with a price of $25 after discount. So best is to go in and get a actual estimate and also you can deal with them .... they get commissions on this i believe

Please do NOT go to Best Buy or Future Shop.

They always screw stuff up, and they overcharge on a LOT of stuff.

Instead, go to an independant audio shop. I recommend Number 1 Sound, it's downtown.

Front: Pheonix Gold RSD 6.5" component - $100 shipped from ebay
Amp: Rockford fosgate p450.4 - $170
HU: Kenwood 8120 - $800

Bridge the amp to power the front. Power the tweets with stock amp/HU. Leave the stock component 6x9 at the rear. Then maybe add a sub in the future.

It is very easy to DIY, but generally, if they charge only 40-60, it may be worthwhile to let them do it (whoever you chose). I personally prefer to DIY.

first upgrade the deck, then if you are still not satisfied with the sound upgrade the speakers, still not ok with it get subs.

your head unit will blow those stock 6x9's in a few days.... when you get a new HD and Amp its best to upgrade the speakers as well...

How about going to Concepts on WHeels in Richmond Hill and grabbing the RSD's for about $180 tax included with FULL warranty and over the counter exchange!

Do NOT run the tweeter from head unit power when you've got 120 watts going to the mids, use the included crossover unless you're going fully active. Of course I'd use the built in high pass crossover to eliminate any frequency below 50hz since all your doing is wasting power when the RSD's can't play lower anyways

REALLY, $800 for the head unit ... wow! Pick up the Pioneer dvd4000 double DIN series HU for $400+tax on sale, grab a NUvi 350 from Dell when they put it on sale for $180, and skip the BT hook up and you save almost $200 dollars.

for under a 1000, you can get a double din unit by eclipse, navi and dvd, and etc etc, all in one,
some of the guys above made a good point,
