- Thanked 24 times for 21 posts
Most people (including myself) have already seen it and own it. This movie was out overseas a few years ago and is just being released over here. Still a pretty good movie compared to the typical Hollywood cr*p they keep releasing over here.

Rather old film.
Don't get your hopes up,
there's a lot more interesting asian films than this one.
Mediocre at best, excessive special effects.
If you're into action, try "Versus", "Azumi", "Zatoichi".

i personally thought it wuz NUTS! The fight scenes are krazi like Crouching Tiger. Storywise might be lacking to some people but I thought it was awesome overall.

Aug 14th, 2004 07:12 PM #9It is indeed a very boring movie and at times very silly. There are a few good fight scenes, but they're so polluted by wire work that it was difficult to keep a straight face at times. If they do nothing to juice this movie up there is no question this movie will bomb in North America.

Aug 14th, 2004 08:28 PM #13I concur with your opinion. I watched it awhile ago and I thought it was pretty good. The story was lacking times but overall the fight scenes more than made up for it. Tony Leung rules, and Zhang Ziyi is awesome as always.

Hero was well done. Especially since it doesn't use 'shaking' effects where all action is a blur.
I don't see how Zatoichi or Versus can even compare to this. Zatoichi had very little action, and when it did, it doesn't last very long. And Versus just had a lot of gunplay, with 2-3 sword battles. Whereas Hero has a ton of action, although the later parts are stretched out, I found that beginning fights to be excellent._______________

My parents use to own a south east asian video store and coming from someone who has watched these traditional asian films from the past 20 years these type of movies havent changed very much but the fact that the rest of the world is finally seeing this genre for the first time. Yes the technology has changed but the stories are the same and based very much on legends.
Most asian actors have been in many more films than hollywood actors that many of us idolize. I hope more these types of films will be released on this side of the ocean for everyone to experience.
I applaud these types of movies for what they are and for the people who want to be critics I suggest keeping your day jobs and to also keep in mind Jackie Chan is far from being the most talented asian actor out there.
