Your 2-year-old's situation is not necessarily cause for great concern .
In fact, many 2-year-olds communicate what they need nonverbally, using sign language
The ability to understand language precedes the ability to talk. If your child seems to comprehend a great deal of what others are saying, he's well on his way to talking
Does your child point to objects? Pointing to a toy he wants or to a picture in a book is closely related to the beginning of actual speech.

Thanks for all the feedback. He has been seeing a speech therapist for over 6 months and he has improved but still behind. We have him in a public program although he is considered lower priority.

Btw It’s eye opening to see other parents’ struggles at the clinic. It’s also frustrating to see parents who use these services because their child is a late speaker because they don’t speak English at home.
