Not the same lever. Yep, common problem, cable snaps. Go to the trunk, have someone pull the lever and see if anything is happening to the trunk mechanism. Sometimes there is a little lever on the trunk lock mechanism that is moved and it will prevent the front lever from activation the latch.

2001 honda civic trunk door won't open
Hey,
my 2001 civic has been running great since I got it a few years back, but since this summer the trunk won't open using the latch beside the driver's seat.
At first I thought the cable might have been broken, but the fuel door still opens using the same latch. Anyone had this problem before?
Marc

yeah I saw that one, but I was wondering why the fuel hatch still worked when the trunk didn't. Isn't it supposed to be the same cable?

I think the general consensus has it the other way around where the fuel door release was broken while the trunk release still worked. Interesting..

I know, that's what I've been reading on various forums. I'll get to work on it by weeks end and I'll post the results. I also looked up replacement cables and from what I've found they would be sold as 1 cable for both. It's weird.

I had the similar problem on 2001 Civic, it uses the same lever (push or pull) for the gas tank and the trunk. It seems to have a design flaw in the cable end where it attaches to the lever.
Check out the following web site to find out more:
fueldoorrepair.com
I installed the part they sell and it worked fine after that, at least until I sold the car.
