2004 Markham triple murder: reward doubled to $200,000

MARKHAM/VAUGHAN - A triple homicide in Markham and an anti-Semitic hate crime in Vaughan, both of which occurred in 2004, have had existing monetary rewards for information leading to arrests doubled in an effort to solve these crimes.

The York Regional Police Services Board has doubled the reward for the execution-style murders of Zhu Xia Lin, 41, of Markham; Yan Jun Liu, 35, of Scarborough; and Walter Xian Chen Zhang, 40, of North York to $200,000.

The reward for the hate crime has been doubled to $40,000.

Both rewards are in effect until January 31st, 2013, and will not be renewed.

“We felt very strongly that these cases needed a spark of interest to hopefully generate information to help York Regional Police solve them,” said Police Services Board Chair Frank Scarpitti.

“We are making a big push here to find the people responsible,” said board member and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Municipality of York Bill Fisch.

Fisch also added, “It’s time to make a statement. If someone has information and can assist us, they will reap an incredible reward.”

The triple homicide took place on Sunday, February 8th, 2004, around 12:50 am at the Mirage Spa, a licensed body rub parlour located at 7170 Warden Avenue. All the victims were present inside the parlor when killed. Zhu Xia Lin was the owner and Yan Jun Liu was her employee. Walter Zhang was a friend of the two women.

They were bound and taken from the massage parlour into Zhang’s 1999 red Ford Explorer, and driven to the rear of Victoria Square United Church on Woodbine Avenue at Elgin Mills Road. Their bodies were discovered later that evening. Autopsies revealed that all three died as a result of gunshot wounds.

Anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7865, or by e-mail at homicide(at)yrp.ca. If required, interpreters will be provided.

Somewhere
The three murders..

Triads.

Hired hitmen from China. Flew in, did the job, went back to China within hours of the job.

Will never return to Canada nor will police ever identify them.
