I've read mostly good things about it.
I definitely think Honda is slightly overrated though. It has a great name, but is starting to slack off.
Toyota and Hyundai are where it's at right now for economy cars.
Those things are rock solid and seem to last forever.

2006 Civic: to buy or not to buy?
Hey guys
I read on this board that Civic 2006 is not as good a model, is that true?
Cuz I was gonna buy a new Civic until I read that.

All models of the 2006 Civic are very good buys. I think numerous magazines and stuff have chosen the entire line to be the economy car of the year. If you like what you see in the Civic, there is no reason not to buy one.
And this coming from a perfectly happy Toyota Yaris owner.

It was either the Honda Civic, or Toyota Corolla
I hear the Corolla is coming out with the new generation of Corollas next year but I'm buying a car in 1-2 weeks.
But I also hear the Honda Civic has better handling, and is more sporty ie. for young people.
I THINK the insurance is about the same for both cars assuming I'm buying a new car. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It has very good reviews, but I spoke to a Honda mechanic who said they have higher than average problems. I think it is a great car feature wise, but doesn't have the "Honda" reliability.

Jun 7th, 2006 07:42 PM #6The new corolla is coming out this summer...i think you really should wait...i mean...u will be kicking yourself (like I just did for the avalon) when you see the new model...i think it's worth the wait...buying a new car is a big decision...and btw..i think the Civic's Insurance will be more expensive...cuz of all of those jerks that modified their car for racing and running over ppl...i don't see much ppl modifying the Corrolla...but lots of ppl modified the Civics...it's the same reason why the 1.6EL and 1.7EL are cheaper in term of insurance...and judging on their new Camry...i would think their new Corolla will be awesome too...

I have an Acura CSX and it's like the Civic and it's very fun to drive.
I wish they had the http://www.scion.com in Canada! I saw them all in California! The 2 door one looks really good and they're inexpensive. The boxy one is kinda cute too.

Honda (Acura) quality isn't what it used to be. Check out Acura's issues with their transmission and grinding in 2nd gear.

if you take a civic, take the STANDARD VERSION, i test drove both and the automatic is way way inderpowered at 4 speeds, but the clutch at 5 speeds was a big WOW. also look at the toyota matrix XR, very interesting car

So you guys don't think I should get a Civic then?
I was hoping to get a car before July 1 cuz I will need a car to drive by then for work (moving to another city) so I don't know when the new Corolla will roll out.
Also, I was hoping to buy a Civic cuz it looks more sporty? for young guys?
Oh yeah, and I don't drive a manual (only automatic)...to answer last poster's postLast edited by espeed; Jun 8th, 2006 at 01:41 AM.

test drove the new civic.... and found it underpowered compared to the mazda3 and subaru impreza...
but still... when you add maintenance, reliability and overall value.... i think the civic wins.
