2007 Acura MDX vs 2007 BMW X5 3.0
Which one you prefer... pros and cons for both.
Both of these have been redesigned.
The Acura has 300 horses vs 260 on the x5.
price is about 5-10k apart between the two.
here are pictures for both

based entirely on aesthetics and drive feel......the X5 gets the PT imo.....i obviously haven't driven the new x5 or new mdx....but i've driven the older models...and based on that the X5 was LIGHTYEARS ahead of the MDX in every regard possible......

MDX is not an SUV, it's a minivan-wannabe-SUV LOL. Aside from it's rather ingenious/groundbreaking E-M clutchpacks the MDX has little going for it, IMO. X5 is definitely the better SUV...

For what it's worth, a couple of my parents friends who drive and X5 say they are great except it has broken down on them several times within the first year of ownership.
The MDX , Don't know anyone who drives one.
I know you said your not looking at other cars but the Lexus RX, 4 Runner or Pathfinder might be an alternative.

Too bad Honda screwed the pooch on exterior styling on the '07 MDX (not that the X5 will win many beauty contests either) because the interior improvements make it better than the '06.
Personally I would look at the Cadillac SRX, now that it has had a makeover in it's interior for '07.

I guess if you have enough money and time to afford your car be in mechanic shop/dealership multiple times per year, you can pay extra to get the BMW !!!
To me, I don't mind paying more to get a better quality car, but not paying more to get a brand name batch only......... People pay more to get a Lexus instead of Toyota because we know we get more luxury stuff, premium materials, advanced tech, etc. (maybe a bit for the Lexus brand as well). But people paying 10-20 grands more for BMW/Audi to get more trouble than other things. I have heard and seen many BMW/Audi having multiple problems in the 1st couple years of ownership........
Simply not acceptable as a car, not even mention as a premium priced car !!!
All their fans can say is "German Engine", but bottomline is that reliability is way more important for a car. German Engine can't help much if the car is with the mechanics most of the time......... If I want to buy a premium car, I would go for Lexus (1st choice), then Acura. Just my 2 cents

The argument that the MDX is an SUV wannabe, it, moot.
Try to find anyone who spends more than $50K on an SUV and then drives through fields, streams, over rocky crests, etc.Exactly. No one does it.
In fact, you'd be hard presssed to find anyone with a lux-SUV who would even drive over a curb.
The closest they come to this is camping, and any old minivan can perform this task just as well.
As far as service goes, BMW is more likely to include free scheduled service.
You'll never see a deal like that at Acura.

Agree, only the extreme SUV fans want to drive their SUVs to the forrest and mud road to TEST their cars' ability. (maybe they should do what the Jeep commercial shows, "climb" from the bottom of the hill to the top with the SUV
) If that's the case, maybe they should go for HUMMER.
To me, even those so called REAL SUVs are capable to do extreme offroads (such as Range Rover), it is really not much practical usefulness ! Like you said, go camping maybe the most they use ! Most people want a SUV, to be roomier and higher than regular sedan, but more stylise than a van. People go for Acura, MB or BMW also want luxury as well, don't than they want to go to muddy roads.
Believe or not, on the last rain storm day, I actually saw a guy with a Hummer actually enjoyed going into the flooded road, the deeper it gets, the happier he looks
I am serious !

the only way to know which one is best is to drive both and see.
mdx has sh-awd now so the 2007 version is way better than previous.

..and what does this "service" include?
Will it cover my brakes? tires?
What about long term?

Don't be ridiculous.
No one's warranty covers tires and brakes.
Except maybe Rolls.
Its scheduled service.
