2008 Honda Civic info wanted
Hi all,
I'm going to buy my first Brand new car as I'm driving across GTA and will need a cheap, gas miser.
I want the new Honda Civic and realize that the 2008's will be coming out soon.
Anyone know when I can order a 2008 Civic (dates of preorders)?
Should I consider the Civic Hybrid (how close is price after gov rebates)?
Also if you have recommendations on dealers (PM me if you can get me a deal) or which options I should order very much appreciated. I want the Civic sedan (4dr) with automatic + air conditioning (that's all).

There will be no difference between the 07 and 08 /The Civic was just redesigned in 06.Best deal are to be had just before they release the 08s.

As for Hybrid, I heard that the Dealers jacked up the price of Hybrids as soon as they heard that the government will give you back $5000 (I think it's $5000). So your not really getting anything back from the government now, pretty much.
In the long run the hybrid will be cheaper though.

How do you figure that?
Let say
Hybrid cost $8,000 more then a Normal car and you will save 1,000 a year in gas it would take you 8 years to make back your money.
On top of that Hybrid battery you have to change every so many years, so let say you have to change the battery ever 9 years and it would cost you $3,000.
I don't know about you but I would rather stick with my non-hybrid car or until the prices of Hybird come down

The deals I can see for '07 is 1.9% financing. I'm probably going to opt to buy the car outright (cash) so feel the '08 will have better resale when I want to sell it (i.e. a equivalent '08-'07, 5 years from now may have a $2k price difference). Unless the dealer is willing to sell me an '07 for $2-$3k less then I can buy a '08 for I'll wait (I've heard I can order at end of July for Sept deliveries).
As for the Hybrid cost vs regular civic cost difference, from the Honda website the Civic I want is listed $24,500 (out the door) compared to the Hybrid at $31,300 (out the door). Subtract the govmnt rebate ($2k) means a $4k difference in price. Maybe worth it but will have calculate the long term costs.
Thanks for all the input and keep the opinions coming.

Honda may be different, but some manufacturers will offer a choice of low-interest financing OR a roughly-equivalent ca$h rebate.

Honda Civic
The payback or r.o.i. on a Civic Hybrid will take many years - even with the government rebate.
So, from a financial standpoint, it only makes sense to get the Hybrid if you plan on keeping it for a long time.
However, some people are motivated to buy Hybrid vehicles so they will create less of an "ecological" footprint, and aren't overly concerned about spending a couple of extra thousand to be more environmentally responsible.
For me, a Honda Civic on its own is already pretty environmentally friendly.
In regards to which model year to buy, you have to balance out the upfront cost savings of buying an 07, vs. the higher resale of an 08.
As stated in an earlier post, the 07's will have more attractive incentives and/or financing rates. But, if you are paying cash, I think you could get a comparable deal on an 08.
PM me and I'll refer you to a General Manager of a west end Honda dealership. He always give my friends and family $400 - $500 over invoice.
Good luck.

Fuel economy will be adjusted also, yielding 'lower' values.
I believe the '07 Manual Transmission qualifies for some sort of government rebate.

I preordered an 08 Civic SI for 30K plus the difference between 07 and 08. It really does wonders if you have a friend that works at Honda.
