2009 Honda Accord brake problems
Hi everyone,
I'm leaning toward buying the 09 Accord but one issue that is really making me think twice are the squeaky brakes (http://www.carcomplaints.com/Honda/A...ke_crazy.shtml). The catch is that this problem CAN NOT be fixed.... even by Honda. Also it seems Honda has known about this issue for sometime but refuse to properly fix it.
So I'm looking for the opinion of members who own a recent 08/09 Accord.
Have you guys had this problem?
I am not looking for 'why don't you buy __________?' advice or comments like 'my [some other random car] never had this issue'.

brakes
There are things worst than squeaky brakes on a new car......that would be the least of my concerns.

Bought new in Jan 2009, got brake squeal with 4k on odometer. Went to dealer and they lubed the brake shims. No squealing for about 1500km and then back on same page. Went back to dealer and this time they said “It’s Normal” which really pissed me off. But few people on accord forum seems to find the solution. Will try that and hope it will fix the squeal.

Tx Fuzz, PMM1 and yanksingh. Much appreciated.
I guess it is showing up at different intervals for different people. Reading the reviews on carcomplaints, it is not something that is ignorable (is this right yanksingh?) I think you should press your dealer to take responsibility because this is something Honda knows about but can't fix easily (from what I understand the braking is hooked up to their computer system which is the root cause of this rather than the breaks themselves).
I am reaaaaaaaallly hoping they find a fix to this becaues I had been drooling over this car for sometime until I found this

Hello,
I own a 2008 Accord sedan and the I think the problem you are referring to is brake squealing caused by premature brake wear. I haven't experienced any brake related problems with my car, which is at 30,000 km currently. From what I have researched based on other consumers' complaints, rear brake pads wear out much faster than front brake pads; however, average mileage at which this problem hits is between 25K-30k miles which is about 40k-50k kms. I will be pretty pissed off as well if the same problem were to happen with me as it seems like a rather expensive hobby to replace brake pads every 40,000 kms! I am pretty sure this definitely falls under the category of recalls; however, Honda will obviously deny to this by identifying this as "normal wear and tear" in order to save costs associated with the recall.
If I were you, I wouldn't let this issue pull me back from buying this car. I have owned it for about 1.5 years now and its a fun car to drive. I haven't experienced any issues with the car except for a bad keyfob - which was replaced for free under warranty. Also, this problem doesn't happen to EVERYONE. I have a couple of friends that own 2008 Accord coupes & sedans, and they haven't experienced any problems with their cars either. They have approx the same amount of kms on their cars as I do (about 30k).

In the worst case, can't you just put in softer brake pads?
I have this issue with my car, and its basically a choice of squeaky vs dusty ones.

I am not technically inclined with cars but I think it might not be as simple as replacing brake pads. The problem could be linked with the brake mechanism/assembly which causes the pads to wear out faster. In short, even if you do replace your pads, chances of the same problem persisting again are greater than zero.

And you may be voiding your vehicle's warranty if there are issues down the road.

It's possible unless and until you don't use Honda genuine pads bought from the dealership. But if there is a problem during the production process for a LOT of these pads, chances are even if you buy Honda genuine, squealing might return in a few thousand kms as you could have gotten another set of defective pads. I don't know about Accord's warranty terms but I think Honda in general offers a 3000 mile warranty for brake pads. So if the squealing occurs after 3000 miles, you are out of luck anyways.
Honda REALLY needs to investigate further in this topic. It's possible, they know what the problem is, but in fear of issuing a massive expensive recall, they might be holding back.
