2009 kia rio5 - any good?

I've never bought a new car before, but with the 0% financing and relatively low prices, this sounds like a good car for us.

My co-worker had a 2004 kia rio, and she says it was a POS and to never buy a kia.

What is the lowest price I can get it at? I don't need it till december so not really a big rush.

Great looking car compared to the Hyundai, lots more standard features BUT it has the same anemic engine.

that is ridiculous.... why would anyone buy a kia rio5 for 16k? you can get a way better car for 16k base!

for 200 dollars more, you can start yourself off in a AT honda fit with better fit and finish and better handling and a more solid feeling.

i see kia rios on the road and think.. this person threw their money away and bought a crappy car because they simply did not know any better.

my friend had bought a kia rio in NS and drove it to Ontario because he moved to toronto for work.. he said he will never buy a kia ever again. he barely fits in the car and he's 6feet and it kept breaking down on him periodically in toronto.

well i think that its not an entire waste of money, as the warranty is good and the quality is climbing upwards to "Pretty good", but better cars exist around that price for what your paying.

6-12 month old used cars a possibility?

That's funny.

I'm 6'3" and fit in my 2008 Rio5 with headroom to spare. If he doesn't like how he fits in it, why did he buy it?

I've also driven it to Nova Scotia twice (once in October and once in February) since I bought it in May 2008. No problems.

Perhaps your friend has the previous generation before the Rio started sharing the same platform as the Hyundai Accent.

It's a cheap car. When I was shopping, I couldn't get into a Yaris, Fit or Versa without forking out no less than $2500 more, unless I wanted something with no power locks/windows and no A/C.

So far mine has been a bullet proof commuter and has been reliable for long trips. This week it rolled over 55,000 kms. Again... that includes 2 trips to Nova Scotia and 3 trips to Quebec.

Nothing but routine oil changes so far. The brakes will need to be done within the next 10,000 kms or so, but considering how I drive, I'm surprised they didn't get mushy 20,000 kms ago.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Kia fan, but I have no complaints. It's an ugly crap car... most cars for under $20K aren't much to look at and I certainly try to keep myself invisible when driving mine. When I think I need a nice car to get through life, perhaps I'll fork out over $45K for one, though I doubt a $45K car could be much more reliable than the $15K car I have now and be as cheap to operate.
