Definitely negotiate, at that price, you can get other cars that can be defined as better. Need a bit more information on your side though.

2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart
Hi, I been looking into buying this car. I'm just wondering what everyone's opinion on it (from buyers would be a plus) and whether it's worth it. I went to Wolfe Mitsubishi (in Langley, BC) to get a quote for one.
Base price is $34,993 but I'm adding the premium package for $5000 (includes leather, sun roof, 650 watt stereo, FAST key, auto rain wipers, and the 30GB HDD Navigation system).
Total price is $39,993. With GST, PST, and destination it's $45,468. I'm going for a 60/84 month term finance with $13,622.39 left after 60 months and 4.8% interest. Comes to about $274.95 bi-weekly payments. I wonder if this is too unreasonable for the Ralliart and a Mitsubishi in general. I haven't talked them down or negotiated at all. this was just a quick quote to see how much it would cost.
I'm putting $3000 down on the car.
edit
I wasn't on planning on buying something that expensive (Not that I couldn't afford it, I just didn't want to pay so much for car). Originally I was looking at new and used cars for around $28,000-$35,000 but I was attracted to a new Mitsubishi because of their 60/84 financing. If I did get a different car it would probably won't be as much as the Ralliart and be in my original price range.Last edited by pe7er; Dec 2nd, 2008 at 10:04 PM. Reason: add info

Yes, plus the 09 STI is starting at 39,995. The WRX does 0 - 100 in 4.7 seconds! I'd definitely go with a Subbie.

I was thinking about getting a Subaru but I'm not really liking their current design. Any owners out there want to give a shout out about the car? The price they've negotiated?

Definitely negotiate, you can get a base ralliart for well below msrp. The premium package isn't worth it in my opinion.

Not really... You just have to willing to drop the clutch from high rpms and bear with the wear and tear from those types of launchs.
Anyways, $39.9K is way too expensive for a Ralliart Lancer. I would make the jump to EVO at that price point or look at the STI or 265 WRX.

I wouldn't add nav for $5000--auto wipers aren't really that necessary, "650W" is proabably nonsense* (like on most factory systems), keyless start (if that's what that is) is gimmicky IMO. Please tell me you can get the roof without that package though?
*Though the 650W rating is surely a peak rating and meaningless as stated, I will say that the Fosgate systems in Mitsubishis are among the better stoctory audio systems out there (and yes this includes many so-called "premium" systems in luxury cars.
Emphasis added.
Well start negotiating already!
Actually I would stay away from balloon financing (which is what that 60/84 thing is), it's not really a good idea. You're better off leasing instead IMO (unless the lease rate is a lot higher).
Yeah but that doesn't mean much. I mean the GTI came in second... While I love the GTI, it seems kind of strange the way they placed cars in this comparo. The Lancer was still 2nd fastest in the 0-60 but they complain about how it starts losing out by 100MPH. LOL 100MPH. How important is it to get to 160km/h faster than the next guy on public roads? Then they complained about the rear wing on the Ralliart
Old-man much there? C'mon this is a boy-racer car, you can't complain about stuff like that.
They complain that the Lancer is too pricey but then it's like they forgot about the AWD and double-clutch trans they just praised it for. Hello! Automated manual doesn't come for free C&D!
Also strange is how they go on about the Cobalt SS not getting a good 0-60 time for two reasons:
-not enough traction (understandable given 260hp and FWD)
-they didn't use the SWOL feature because they claim their procedure "requires" them to close the throttle and clutch
(WTF? I mean did they close the throttle everytime they upshifted the dual-clutch gearbox in the Lancer? Stupid reasoning not to use the SWOL on the SS. They should be using whatever features the car has to accelerate quicker. They don't get in an M5 and leave it in 400hp mode and say 'oh we didn't enable 500hp mode because it wasn't the "procedure" that we did on other cars'", so why be ******* about the Cobalt SS' features???)
Seems like the editors were smoking some grass or something, producing the results here.
No kidding, not to mention the wear on the clutch as noted by C&D who apparently did a redline dump to get that time.** Meanwhile the Ralliart has a dual-clutch gearbox, which requires a lot less skill to shift quickly and will still shift more quickly than any human.
**Points again to more retardedness by C&D. They are willing to dump the clutch on the WRX @ redline and they clearly didn't do that on other cars; but, they still refused to use the SWOL on the Cobalt? I'm sure a redline dump isn't "procedure" so why is that fair game and SWOL not? Seriously these guys had to be smoking something, producing this one.Last edited by ES_Revenge; Dec 3rd, 2008 at 09:08 AM.

I briefly took a look at the Ralliart but the fact is you are paying $3000 of the $5000 package just for for navigation system. I'll bet they drop the Nav into an option all it's own in 2010 as they did the 09 Lancer.

$45k+ on a Lancer Ralliart?? You must be kidding me. If you can afford it, why go with such long balloon financing? In this kind of market, you have all the power to negotiate. Don't think it's worth anything north of $40k out the door. The $5k is a waste, might as well spend $2k upgrading your stereo if you want better sound. Anyway, I would never pay that much for a Lancer, unless it's the real deal Evo.

Go for teh Subie... you won't be disappointed.
My first one was an 04 WRX (which is now my DD) I also have a 91 legacy (for TSD rallies) and recently bough an 02 WRX that's being prepped for pro rally...
the ONLY Mitsu I'd ever consider is an AWD EVO... and even then the 'fluffy' styling changes they've made are not appealing to me... I'd import an EVO from the states (same thing I did with my Subie)!
God luck!_______________
Get sideways... Life is too short to be straight.
