I have read tons of reviews around the web and talked to many people on LED vs Plasma topic and i can tell you for sure that picture quality in most cases is worse in LED tv's than plasma next year there should be OLED tv's coming out next year that should outperform Plasma but they will cost about 6k for 55"

Think twice before buying a Nissan
3/18/13: cash1.25%,HOC1.5%,MMT97.25%
Me YTD+18.06% vs TSX YTD+2.80% = beat market by 15.26%

If the viewing angles are great from every angle possible go research the model number to find out if it's IPS. Usually it's always on the higher-end models but there are exceptions like the LG 3DTV at costco.
Remember it's only on the big brands. Never on the cheap brands like insignia/philips/haier/dynex.
The colours will appear vivid, natural, and clean. IPS panels are beautiful in general.Last edited by wilsonlam97; Dec 17th, 2012 at 08:45 AM.

this is true if you compare at similar price points. the TOP end, well made LED's CAN match plasma in many factors. the cheap, non-dimming, edge-lit LED tv's present some of the WORST pictures i've ever seen on any tv.
this why i say you need to look at the picture, and worry about the tech less. all types of tv's can be made well or real crappy. you can find horrible looking plasma's too.

my problem with IPS is they generally have poorer black levels. something that to me is the MOST important factor to look at since it's the got the widest range in todays tv's and makes such a huge impact on picture quality.
if viewing angle is a must, i'd go back to plasma personally. unless there's a really nice dimming IPS out there i have seen yet(quite possible cause i'm not looking). but i certainly wouldn't buy a tv just BECAUSE it was IPS

I am eye-balling on Samsung ES8000. Missed the 55" deal from NCIX by few minutes. Don't wanna pay more than $1500-$1700 for it.
