Basically, everything that has a turbo 6 in BMW after 2011 has the twinscroll single turbocharger. So, 2007 - 2010 are twin turbos and 2011 and above are single turbos*

*There were some exceptions like the 135i M and I think the Z3 that used the older more potent N54 but BMW only made the exception for super sporty models.

How much of a discount were you able to nab on the 335xi?

The RWD 335i beats the S4 in performance, but the S4 beats the 335xi in performance.

I ended up ordering a 2013 BMW 335XI yesterday, it should be here at the beginning of October. My last 4 cars have all been manual transmission but this time I am going for the 8 speed automatic with paddle shifters. I think the key deciding issues were that the 335XI was a little bigger in the back seat than the S4, also the BMW will be around in this current style for 5 or 6 more years while the S4 will be redesigned in 2 or 3 years, and finally my BMW dealer seemed more willing to negotiate price than the Audi dealers here in Vancouver.
Which dealers did you go to? I am in somewhat of the same boat as you.

I bought my car from Brian Jessel and I ended up with a discount of around 6.5% on the new 2013 model and also received a trade in at the very top black book value for my 2008 335XI. Considering I will receive any other incentives that BMW Canada (if there are any) applies to the 2013 335xi when my car arrives in October 2012 and in the meantime my 2008 335xi will continue to depreciate at about $300 per month I think it was a pretty good deal. PM me If you want the dealer contact info.

Does anybody know if BMW fixed the carbon build up problem in the engines yet? If so, what are the safe years to buy?
