2014 odyssey vs. 2014 toyota highlander

Hi, we need to buy a new vehicle in couple of weeks. We have a 2000 Camry now. But we r expecting our second one in couple of weeks. Price wise odyssey is better. But look wise highlander is better. Can anyone got any input on any of these vehicles? Highlander is coming out in few weeks. Thanks in advance.

You will appreciate the sliding doors at parking lots.

If you don't care about all the stigma surrounding the minivan, the Odyssey is the better choice in this case.

We r going to be a family of 4. Toddler and a newborn baby. We'll have my in lows staying for couple of months. Beside our current car needs lot of work done which is not worth fixing it. We r looking to sell it. We like the 7/8 seater.

Highlanders are not known for any usable 3rd row space. Stuffing inlaws in the crammed back seats won't score you brownie points as a good son in law. You really need to compare the Odyssey and Pilot and Sienna, not the Highlander.

Highlander since its all new(except engine) and resale is excellent.
I wouldn't go with the Odyssey since even 2013 models are included in the big Oil burning/Spark Plug fouling Lawsuits in the US.

Although it is not on your list of choices, have you thought of Acadia Vs. Town and Country???

I personally have an Acadia as a company vehicle and I would get another one in a heartbeat. 80k kms on it now and other than oil changes, 1 time brake service front and back, and 1 set of wipers, no other repairs. As for space, plenty of room in the 3rd row for adults and still have room for 2 large suitcases in the trunk. Something to really consider.

We will definitely look into it. We didn't want to go over 40k.

While both might fit your needs, you should go for the Odyssey if you value practicality and price more, and Highlander if you value image and luxury more.

Go with Honda. My 2010 Toyota rav just suffered a complete engine failure and Toyota will do nothing.

Highlander isn't gonna give image and luxury. If you want image and luxury at least step up to lexus rx, acura mdx, infiniti jx

Hell santafe xl looks better than highlander.

The new 2014 highlander has many exterior and interior upgrades. But odyssey is bit cheaper than highlander and it has more cargo room as well. It's a very tough but the only thing that is keeping us away from odyssey is that it's a minivan.

I wouldn't suggest buying a brand new model release from Toyota (or any manufacturer for that matter). Our family has bought Toyota/Lexus since the 80's and most recently all the new release models have quite a few problems. These aren't mechanical but silly things as squeaks/rattles that are later recalled and fixed. Just a hassle, other than that no big deal.
