2016 Honda Odyssey EX - Extended Warranty - Is it worth it? (7 years/130,000 km for $2,048)

Is it worth purchasing the extended warranty on the 2016 Honda Odyssey EX?
For $2,048, you can extend the warranty to 7 years/130,000 km.
The EX model has a few notable gadgets inside like Start/Stop push button, 7 inch touch screen, keyless entry and automatic sliding doors.
Not sure if these gadgets/sensors can last very long.

It's always profitable to the dealers...otherwise they won't sell it.
Put that money away in a gic for repairs.
Also these warranties have exclusions. So check them out before buying.

I told a dealer on more than one occasion, "If I thought this car needed an extended warranty, I wouldn't be buying it."

Don't even bother. I have a '06 EXL-RES and have never had a problem with it in 10 years. Never repaired or replaced any parts except for normal maintenance parts like windshield wipers, air filters etc. Never had any warranty done to it. Only thing was a recall for the fuel pump cover that I didn't bother to get done.

You're basically paying for "piece of mind".
Some folks set money aside monthly and hope they never have to use it, or use only a fraction of it.

As a comparison, I was quoted $4500 for 7yr/180K on my 2016 Ford...lol

If you are planning on keeping the van for 7 years, I'd personally get Honda Plus. Power doors on minivans aren't exactly reliable.

Remember it's not bumper to bumper extended warranty, just covers the listed items

i like having the extended warranty myself

it gives you peace of mind and if it's transferable it helps resale.

i usually don't buy or advise others to not to buy extended warranty, but this time, i told my in-laws to get it for their 2013 Odyssey EX back then, simply because there
are j/ too many gadgets, screens, camera and sensors on the odyssey. And it's a piece of mind to them.....$2k sounds fair.

Recommendations to in-laws is always different, having them pay more up front for the extended warranty is better than the trouble of having to rescue them at the side of the road and subsequently taking the blame for talking them out of the extended warranty in the first place. It's their money after all... win-win for you.

i'm afraid to comment because i may just jinx myself but our 03 ody has power sliding doors and they still work perfectly. now, the motors that open and close the rear windows, that's another story....... :)

Don't you get a 5 year warranty for free already?

Think of it this way... Shove that $2000 into a savings account. If something comes up, put that $2k towards it... Bank the interest or use it towards repairs:
5yr is for the power train only.
