Had a dealer contact me saying that someone backed out of their deal.

I came out with the following:

Code: Select all

Least Cost Calculation
 $ 10290 - 294 per month x 35
 $ 14340 - Due on delivery
-$ 14000 - Gov't Rebate
========
 $ 10630 - Lease Cost Total (if I return the car in the end)

Purchase At End of Lease Calculation
 $ 10290 - 294 per month x 35
 $ 14340 - Due on delivery
 $  9185 - Residual
 $  1194 - Residual Tax
-$ 14000 - Gov't Rebate
========
 $ 21009 - Keep Total Cost (if I purchase it in the end)
I probably could've gotten a better deal, but I didn't push seeing as how they could flip the car by the end of the day to someone else.

Also - I have to apply for the rebate myself, so I'm handing them the down payment out of pocket first, then waiting for the rebate from the gov't.

For those numbers, you should consider the e-Golf. For slightly more, you get a MUCH MUCH nicer car. I think some GTA dealers may have unsold stock.
I've been quoted ~ $700-725/mth lease for those, which is just a bit more than your Focus payments.

If the eGolf was available when I ordered my Focus, I would've jumped on it, even for $100/mth more.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I believe dbreaka is only paying $294/month for lease. An e-golf at $700-725/month is significantly more so wouldn't really be comparable.

Yes, you are missing something - the $14340 downpayment he's making on the lease to bring monthly payments down to $294. Incorporate that into the monthly payments and it'll be around $700ish

Was told Ontario batch is now being delivered (March order date) should be picking up any day now.
Just got an email from my dealer in Ottawa saying my Focus has just been delivered to them. Smiling Face With Open Mouth

I think he's saying it'll cost $700-$725/month without the gov't rebate. If my math is right, that nets out to be $311-$336/month with the gov't rebate.

If that's a tax-in price, it's pretty good as well from a lease perspective. I wish I'd known as I'd seriously consider the e-golf.

Yes, without the rebate, his Focus lease is around $706 vs eGolf lease $700-$725. No comparison - eGolf is much better car at that price.
Is eGolf available in Canada yet? Where do you get those numbers from?

eGolf - similar range, less features at base price, more trunk space, better? Probably the same, just costs a bit more - cash price with same features is probably 5k more.

Base eGolf is around $42700 (no DC charging? no technology package? +$4-5k for that)
Base Focus is $34000 with current incentives from Ford
