I was told the same, you do benefit potentially from the long order time, you get to see what offers or rebates come out over the next 3-4 months.antigua1999 wrote: ↑ It doesn't come out of the dealers pocket either way so they will honor it.

just spent some time reading the spec, the car seems too much underpwoer ?dealisdead wrote: ↑ Eh, maybe people are different?
Can't speak for others, but I'm treating this from a utilitarian point of view. $9K over 3 years, $600 "gas" for 60,000Km, almost zero maintenance. Even if I hate the way it handles and drives, I'm willing to put up with it for what I'm paying. If I remotely cared about the way it feels or drives, I would test drive the gas Focus, but I can't even be bothered to do that.
The EV has base curb weight of 3622lb, which is even 200lb heavier than my RAV4 - a compact SUV. 300kg heavier than another focus gas car
The motor is rated 107 kw and RAV4 4L engine is 131 kw; so even less power.
I complete understand that EV can twist rod straight so get better torque, etc. But it is still a bit on the slow side. Especially in highway speed where the straight twist on wheel don't apply.
And max speed is 135kmh, which is considered quite slow and even dangerous for N/A highway drive.
It use p225 tire, much wider than gas car (195-205) as wide as my RAV4, maybe help to slow down the car
That's not quite what I think EV should be

I have never heard it compared to a RAV4 before, but yes I do believe it is not considered fastnapoleonbot wrote: ↑ just spent some time reading the spec, the car seems too much underpwoer ?

2017 Ford Focus Electric 0-60 times, all trims
Trim, HP, Engine, Transmission
Base 4dr Hatchback
0-60 times 10.1 sec
1/4 mile times 17.4 @ 80 mph
It is about 1.5 seconds slower than the gas version to 60mph
and 1 second slower over a quarter mile
I don't know what to make of that, but I have yet to ever buy a car based on how fast it drives or speeds up.

RAV4 is what I have, that's why I reference it as benchmark of comparison. RAV is not fast car at all, but safe enough to merge into highway, so consider that as a minimal std for average driver.
If the FF EV is rated 130kmh theoretical max speed, it may be quite trouble maneuver in highway - it is good to use HOV lane, but you need to get there in one piece, lol.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I spoke to a salesperson and they said they take away 0% (raised to 2.9%) with employee pricing. Plus they take away other incentives like Costco and presumably delivery allowance. The auto show discount will be expired by then as well.

The 136 (85mph) limiter will probably help preserve range, but it doesn't mean it would take a long time to hit it,napoleonbot wrote: ↑ RAV4 is what I have, that's why I reference it as benchmark of comparison. Standing 1/4mile (400m) time is 17.9s at 128.7km/h. This means it can get up to 130 in 18 seconds from a dead stop, almost exactly the same as a Prius http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/201 ... est-review
For passing power comparison, 50-70mph (80-112km/h) takes just 6 seconds in a Focus Electric, compared to 7.6 seconds in a Prius. It's still slower than, say, a 2.5l CX-5, but not 'unsafely' so.
Here's a Rav4, http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/201 ... est-review
16.x seconds from a stop to 130
5.9 seconds from 80-112
Slightly quicker than the Focus from a stop, about the same acceleration at speed. The Focus is quicker accelerating from 50-80km/h

If you do a lot of highway driving, this car is not for you as higher speed(above 100km/hour) kills the battery very fast.napoleonbot wrote: ↑ RAV4 is what I have, that's why I reference it as benchmark of comparison. That's right, whenever there's employee pricing, there's no 0 percent interest.

For all of you who made the purchase, I guess you need to fork out $14000 down payment as you can only apply for the government rebate after the car has been registered under your name?

You don't have to put any down payment. Can lease or finance without it and claim the rebate on your own.

It's easier to have the dealer apply it for you and put it up against the lease so you don't need anything down.

most people didn't put the 14k down. As the dealer gave us the discount and then is going to claim it himself. Some dealers here didn't want to claim so then people had to put down the 14k and then claim it. Takes about a month for you to see the cheque.

Just as an fyi (I'm sure many already know) - if you want to max the car's onboard charger (6.6kW) try looking for an EVSE that is at least 30A.

Remember that the charging station you order must be on the 'list of eligible charging stations' if you hope to get the 50% (up to $500) rebate from the Provincial Government

I did quite a bit of browsing but ended up ordering the GE Wattstation from Costco.ca
https://www.costco.ca/GE-Wattstation-Re ... zZ06O1U%3D
$799. This charger is on the eligibility list and will work indoors or outdoors. 30A. Can be hardwired or used as a plugin as well (If you have a NEMA 6-50 plug)
I ordered it last Friday and it was at my door Monday afternoon.
I hope that this helps!

Thank you for this. I guess for me, I'm deciding between this one from Costco or the Schneider Electric Model # EV230WS from Home Depot for $799.99 as well, don't forget ebates . And it is on the eligibility list. From what I've been reading, you can't go wrong with any 30A so it comes down to how it looks, how long the cable is (16ft for GE vs 18ft for Schneider), etc.oneild wrote: ↑ Remember that the charging station you order must be on the 'list of eligible charging stations' if you hope to get the 50% (up to $500) rebate from the Provincial Government

Looking at the specs, the EV Focus is about 200lb heavier than the gas version, which equates to an extra passenger. Not perfect but by no means worrisome. Horsepower is around 140, and 0-60 in 10 seconds is more than respectable. I agree about the larger tires- would have preferred smaller to increase fuel efficiency and power ratio, but no biggie for me.napoleonbot wrote: ↑

Come to think about it, I don't know of any modern 4 or 5 passenger car that I'd be scared of to drive on the highway. One of my first cars was a civic hatch which had 90hwp and I don't recall any problems power wise. I've also driven my share of diesel moving trucks (slow as molasses), and never had any problems driving on the highway. It all comes down to driving style. In general, when merging or lane changing, I don't try to out accelerate the car in the other lane, I put my signal on, speed up slowly, let him pass and go behind him. This takes foresight, and advance planning which is what a proper lane change should entail.napoleonbot wrote: ↑ RAV4 is what I have, that's why I reference it as benchmark of comparison. My advice to you, for the safety of you and your passengers (and other cars on the road), don't buy this car if you think it is unsafe to drive on the highway.

If price and other specs are identical, then go with the longer cord. Who knows where the plug on your next EV will be.
