wow so no panoramic moonroof
According to Mazda, it's a weight penalty.

Kind of sucks they now require customers to get the awd and comfort package on the GS to get the moon roof though. Didn't the old GS come standard? =(

It's just surprising because I can't think of any SUV/Crossover offering that doesn't at least give you the option of getting a panoramic moonroof.

I used to think panoramic sunroof is a must-have for my next car until one day I sat in my friend's Tucson (I was in the back seat)...I didn't even notice it until my friend point it out..So not a deal breaker for me at least...

It's nice to have in certain situations, like sunny winter (or cold spring/fall) day. But if it's a separate option I probably would skip it, would rather have $1~2k in my pocket.

Power liftgate is a big thing that's missing. I'd trade my 2014 for a 2017 though.

I find it funny how they use weight saving as an excuse.

First of all I'll point out that Mazda does a great job of making cars fun to drive. It ends here. Why?

Every car except the new cx-9 is loud as heck on the road. Why? No sound deadening because of weight saving.

No pano roof? Weight saving

No power lift gate? Weight saving

No power seats? Weight saving

Why so much road noise? No sound deadening in doors or floor plan

Engine noise? No sound deadening there either

Why so much rust? Lightweight sheet metal prone to rust.

Honestly, they are building very light vehicles because their engine cannot deliver. I know they are using different approach, but they might as well just make a car with a steering wheel and some seats. Many other manufacturers are able to add these options and still be efficient. Mazda needs to add some turbos to their weak engines and give consumers the options that they want.

For 2017,
Power lift gate - YES
Power Seats - Yes
Additional sound deadening - Yes

Excellent. They are learning. I wonder if it's slower now because of the weight. They are still missing turbochargers.

I have the panoramic sunroof on my glc300, and honestly, I don't even know if it's there most of the time.
Especially as driver, or front passenger, you can only see/feel a very tiny bit of the roof.

Panoramic sunroof is nice to have - no doubt, but I think you should ask yourself the practicality of it. If you are buying the car, and driving it, or sitting at the front, you probably won't get to see/use it. Is it really worth it to buy for just the rear passengers?

Power ratings alone mean nothing. Example: Escape 2.0T has 245 hp and 275 lb/ft while the CX-5 is rated at 184/185. You would think CX-5 is way way slower. In fact their quarter mile trap speeds are the same! 5-60 mph time is 0.2s apart.

initially, i was thinking of getting mazda 3 2017 to replace my mazda 3 2010.
But now I am seriously considering CX-5. It is bigger, more practical and AWD.

I was looking at CX-3 at some point, and that thing is tiny, left me disappointed. Why would they give CX-3 AWD, but not mazda 3? Maybe if mazda 3 had AWD, I would definitely put it to debate with CX-5.

Mazda's sound proofing isn't that bad. There's some that's a lot worst but of course it's not the greatest. It's good that Mazda is stepping it up that's for sure.

I'm not a big fan of turbo. I find it to be an easy way out to boost power.
