$288 Windows 8 15.6" 4 GB RAM 500 GB HDD HDMI Asus Laptop @ Visions

http://www.visions.ca/catalogue/categor ... u=X55URH21
AMD E-Series E2-1800 Dual-core Processor (1.70 GHz)
15.6 Inch
500GB
4GB DDR3 (In one slot from what I could find online)
AMD Radeon HD 7340 (integrated)
6 cell battery
1X USB 3.0, 1X USB 2.0, RJ45 (Gigabit Ethernet), VGA, HDMI, Mic/Webcam, SD and Multi Media Card Reader
Super DVD Drive
Windows 8 64-bit
15.6" HD (1366x768) LED backlit screen
1 Year Warranty (Includes Accidental Damage Coverage)

UPGRADES:
$60 for 16 GB SODIMM RAM from NCIX, put one stick in this laptop and put the other 8 GB stick in another laptop. Ram is cheap and useful for iTunes (resource hog) and web browsing with lots of tabs.
$120 for 2 TB portable USB 3.0 HDD from Costco instore/online (oos online atm) Backups/movies/music
Take out optical drive and put a small SSD in for OS. For the more technically inclined, harder than replacing ram but is easy enough to do

Sale is in store only.

Would this be a decent HTPC. I hate such large laptops but I could just shove this behind a wall mounted tv to use as htpc.

Edit: Is this available online on BD?
Online tomorrow for sure, and decent htpc. Online sales start early and (should) continue on throughout the week

Might want to add its an Asus to the title. Misleading otherwise!

I'm curious how one would go about doing this. Specifically, how would the SSD mount to the laptop? Does it screw in where the DVD drive used to?

Remove the DVD drive and install the SSD in a HD Caddy. You can get a HD Caddy from ebay for like $10.

Ahh, I see. Thanks.

Doing so could make this an adequate little machine...

Processor seems slow: http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-E-Seri ... 564.0.html
835 points: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/midlow_range_cpus.html

At that price, one should think about the Dell E6400 (refurb).
The refurbs processor is better, but spending $100 more for USB 3.0, 4 GB DDR3, HDMI, and a Sata 3 500 GB HDD is well worth it imo. DDR2 ram costs a fortune, for the price it costs to have 4 GB of DDR2, may as well go for 8 GB + of DDR3.

This is a very fast netbook class CPU. $298 is a decent price though.

Deal starts at 8 PM and there is "unlimited stock" meaning the price will be honored all day and shipped asap regardless of actual inventory.
