Previous offer expired. Called for a new offer. They wanted to know my alternatives. Ended up offering me 2.5% for 3 months.
Maybe this is a stupid question, that 2.5% for 3 mths is an annualized rate and not just that you get 2.5% for 3 mths?

From today's Tangerine website

https://www.tangerine.ca/en/landing-pag ... TwodFwYJHQ

Here’s How It Works:

Open a Chequing Account with a minimum initial deposit of $100 and receive a $25 Bonus‡.
Open a Tangerine Savings Account, RSP Savings Account or Tax-Free Savings Account with at least $100 and get a $25 Bonus††.

Plus you can earn 2.40%* interest in that Account for 6 months when you also open a Chequing Account.
Switch your payroll direct deposits by August 31, 2017 and continue payroll direct deposits for 3 months to receive a $100 Bonus†††

Interested in opening a Savings Account but not a Chequing Account? You’ll still get $25 for opening a Savings Account and will earn 1.90%** interest in that Account for the first 6 months.

If we are getting 2.5% until October 2 - would it be worth switching to EQ bank in hopes of a bettter rate next time? Does the system recognize this and make a more aggressive offer?

nope, it seems completely random. I have an EQ account and i haven't received a tangerine promo rate in a year.

The main benefit of having an EQ Bank account is that it serves as a refuge from TING and PCF when they fail to send you a good bonus rate offer.

I just called in. I was able to get 2.5% until Oct 31st.

It's for the current balance as well as new money.

I am already at 2 % retention.

Do you think they will increase it to the 2.5 % retention if I call in ? I have close to $ 300 K in my account.

For the time being I want to keep it in Savings, as later on I have some other plans.

Call in and say I want to transfer my money to PCF for 2.5% until Oct 31, 2017. PCF has a current 2.5% promo extended to Oct 31.

Don't even bother. Move to PC (if you were offered 2.5%) or EQ (for 2.3%).
If you try to get 2.5% from Tangerine you will be taken out of TING's lottery box for the next offer period.

did not see any post about Tangerine increased interest to 0.9% .. Does this mean we will get another 0.1% to our current promo?

I feel like I am wasting my TFSA. When the TFSA is 0.8% and normal saving account is 2.5%, isn't it better to keep it in the normal saving account?

Yes. Best is to invest with TFSA but if you are uneasy with the market up and down, then 2.5% minus 50% (high bracket tax rate) and you are still left with 1.25% which is tiny bit better than 0.9% (I think they upped the rate to 0.9% now) providing you get 2.5% for the entire year.

I'm considering of just switching all of my products over from Scotiabank as I don't use any teller services anyways. Their automatic rebalancing mutual fund is recommended by The Couch Potato too. Any of you guys have good experiences with Tangerine?
