There's no longer any lottery. Just call TING as your current promo rate is about to expire and they'll renew it at 2.5% for 180 days. Also their limit is $500k rather than $200k (in case you win a real lottery.)
Does the rate they give apply to tfsa or just saving?

Yeah, but it still annoys the crap out of me that I have to call in. Sure it’s quick and easy, I would just prefer they not make me do anything more than send them my money and they will then in return give me the highest rate they offer. All of these promos, lotteries and call-ins are just more marketing, and I am just about done with all of it. Currently EQBank is just a breath of fresh air with a flat rate and no games.
Agreed. It's annoying to have to play TING's games, at least it was.

However, unlike in the past where I'd have to call in to request a transfer out in order to get them to counteroffer or there would be a lottery where I might get less than others, nowadays it seems they're giving everyone 2.5%. Just call in, note that your promo is about to expire and ask what they can do. It took maybe 2 minutes tops. If that continues, i.e. 2 calls per year, then 20bps (2.5% vs. EQ's 2.3%) on $100k is $200 for 4 minutes work. Easy work.

They recently changed it to 1million
Are you sure?

The fine print on my 2.5% for 6 months offer reads in part:
The Tangerine Bank (the "Bank") Limited Time Interest Offer of 2.50% (the "Offer") is available to existing Tangerine Clients who receive notification that they are eligible for the Offer from a Tangerine Contact Centre Associate and who verbally accept the Offer ("Eligible Clients"). The Offer is available to Eligible Clients on all eligible deposits for a period of 180 days from the date they accept the Offer (the "Promotion Period") to a maximum of $500,000 in deposits to all Tangerine Savings Accounts combined (CDN dollar, non-registered Accounts only

That says as of August 1st. I renewed my 2.5%/6mon a week ago with the $500k limit I posted (copy/paste from my account page upthread with screen shot below.) So it seems the $1M limit is targeted.

I suppose if one has more than $500k it's worth a phone call/chat to find out if the $1M applies to everyone.

some might have fees if need to transfer large sums of money so keep that in mind ie more than the daily limit of the account. so if the daily limit is 20k and you have 100k to park it may take you 5 months to transfer out all the money after the promo if you want to avoid the fees. tangerine also pays you right away if thats important. some of the big banks its not until the first tuesday of the month/next business day.

Hey everyone,

Just helping refer my friend to Tangerine, and wanted to confirm the best process to do so.

If I refer them through GCR to get a chequing account ($24) do they and I still both get the $50 bonus? If they subsequently open a savings account, do they get the 2.75% 6month promo for new savings account?

Thanks for the clarifications!

You can add TD Bank eSavings Premium account to that list as well .... :)

3 - 3.20% until December 31, 2018

Opened account there today ... and gave them large size cheque from Tangerine (enough to be making 3.20% anyhow)

Details here:

really? That is nice but calling in is still a huge pain in the ass. its just like having telus, shaw, bell, etc and having to call for deals. ugh

How do you know that there's no longer a lottery?

My spouse has 2.5% expiring Nov. 30 and I have 2.75% expiring Jan. 1 with TING. How can you be so sure that they won't offer us another lottery rate as per the last 3+ yrs? Not that I care too much as I have 3.5% @ HSBC till Nov. 15 and 3% at RBC for the next 6 months.
