I'm not that familiar with Max, I mainly work wth Maya but I'm no pro. But the concept should be the same. What you'll need to do is create a camera, then at one point in your timeline you need to create a key frame for it (in Maya you hit "S" and that will create a keyframe for selected objects). Then move your camera at a later point oin your timeline and create another keyframe.
Sorry that I don't have what exact keys you need to hit but the basic concept is there so it may help when trying to figure this out.

3D Studio Max - Anyone familiar?
I just have like a noob question for people who are familar with studio max,
How do you create a camera that goes from point A to Point B, and then save it as an avi
(I think i'm combining like 9048509305898 steps into one sentence)
If anyone knows please DO tell, I've been searching for good tutorials and all, but I'm hopeless
Thanks

Haven't used Max since the DotCom bust, but basically:
Create the camera. Hit the Animate button at the bottom or the screen, it'll get redish at the bottom to indicate things will be keyed. Move the time line slider to frame x (determine how many frames you want per second and multiply how many seconds the animation should take, say 3 seconds at 30 fps is frame 90). Move the camera to it's new destination. You can scrub (drag) the time line slider to see the camera move. Right click a viewport's label and you can switch to the camera view.
Render to create the animation, it should use avi as the default.
And marvel at how crappy the camera moves, as animating, modeling, lighting, those are the skills. Using Max is the relatively easy part.

Oct 29th, 2005 11:48 AM #5Both apps have almost the same setup, as do most 3D apps. It's alomost like once you learn one, it should be easy to use any 3D app as the concepts are the same.

Maya comes with some nice tutorial videos.. Hard to say which is easier.. Maya is easier for applying materials and stuff, but Max is easier for shaping objects.. so..

you can just make a camera with the camera button and move it around during animation and you should know how to use it from there.
