I got this price at Eastporters. I think Epson is lowering the prices, maybe they will have some new models in the fall. Don't see why else they will put the 5040 on closeout.

quite sad really, I would be all over this if they kept the price at par (2199 is a great deal for the 5040ub!).

5040 in Stock now, but at almost 2900, it doesn't make much sense. It can be had for 3500 new (plus i'd only pay 5% tax vs 15)...

I guess now they simply take the US price (2200) and add the exchange rate. The loonie sucks (thanks to this moron Trump), meh, I guess I will "rent" a 3000 from Costco and wait for better deal.
It doesn't make sense as they have the 5030UB listed on the US Epson site for $1,723.79 and the Canadian Epson site for $1,723.79 but the US site has the 5040UB for $2199 but on the Canadian site it is $2,858.70?? It can't be a currency difference if they are listing the 5030UB for the same price, can it? Maybe the 5040UB will be reduced in the coming weeks if a 5050UB is coming or something?

By comparing the us and ca sites, I think the ones that nobody wants have similar prices, but the more attractive ones are converted from usd to cad.

In the same boat. The max i'd pay for refurb 2400 max. I plan to 'rent' a 3000 unit from Costco for months while waiting for good deal.

Whoa, the deals are getting crappier. They added the 3000 for 750$ and some old 8350 for $625. So my theory is correct - crappy projectors have the 1:1 exchange rate.

On on the US site they also added the 6020 for $1600US, which is high imho.

2040 is back in Stock for $519. Unfortunately I just realized that with only 1.2 zoom, I can't use it on my 138" 2:35 screen - I'd have to move it a feet back and forth to use the full screen on 16:9 @ 110"

FML...

2040 is oos, they also had briefly 1040 for $480.

On a side note, it lets me add 99 units of 5040 to my card. It's been like this for a while. I hope that they do have that many, maybe they will mark it down. It just doesnt make sense to pay 2900 for a refurb that can be had for 3500 new, meh

Is warranty the same as a brand new one? If so, why not. Of course a bigger Discount would definitely be better but $600 +tax is still a good chunk of change. As long as warranty is the same in my opinion refurbs are just as good, sometimes even better then brand new. In this case the bulb is replaced so no difference there, but with refurbs someone repairs and inspects each one on one. Someone is double checking that everything is ok, that doesn't always happen with brand new items. As well Ive read that in general only 5% of referb items are actual defective.

Now if you find a refurb item with a shorter warranty then I would definitely be more cautious.

Well, in my case since i am in QC, it'd cost me almost 3300 for refurb tax in and 3675 for new. 10% saving is NOT worth it for me. I'd rather pay 10% more and get a new one even if warranty is the same.

IMHO there should be at least 25% savings on refurb to be worth it. The fact that people are not buying it at that price shows that it's not priced right.

Were the 2040s actually in stock? I saw them show up on the site, but did they actually have any stock of it? Did anyone manage to grab one?

After 3 cancelled order (bank info wrong) I was finally able to get one ordered Monday, and delivered yesterday. The unit had 140 hours on it and 3 lamp replacements, current lamp had 0 hours. Other then that every thing looks awesome.
