3web?
So, my discount with rogers highspeed is almost up (20% off for 12 months) and I was thinking of switching to 3web. Is it worth the $10 I will save each month?
Only cable internet is available in my area
Thanks!

I used 3web out in BC (so they use shaw's equipment, opposed to the east where they use rogers).
Ran just like shaw did.. the one downside is if you ever need to contact them, the hold time is horrendous.

Normally I don't care much about customer service unless the service sucks and you have to actually call them. But 3web isn't an alternative for Rogers, unfortunately. I called when I was looking for alternatives, and they have a 60Gb cap on the line. When you go over it, they shut off the connection and its an automatic $26 charge that you have to call them for before they'll turn it back on.

Do a search on 3web reviews and you'll stay away.
I cannot say enough bad things about this company, my internet was down for 3 weeks once, they sent me three modems in the mail and kept having my internet shut down because they were switching the mac addresses (or something like that). When I called they denied that they sent three modems and then a few months after I sent them back complained they had not received them.
The list goes on and on and on.
A year after I quit with them I received a call from them saying that my highspeed line was approved and a tech would be at my house between whatever day and whatever day.
The company itself may not be bad, but the people they have working for them may share a braincell.

I had 3 web and had a bad experience, however I think its because something happened while I had it, for around 3 months the network was really messed up, they blamed rogers and I would defiantly agree it was around that time people started getting 99.X IP addresses.
Anyways 3web was bad for me because I could never get a hold of them and rogers kept cutting our internet service, finally after a few months they cut us off and no one ever came to fix it. I kept their modem as a fair trade
However I can see people being happy with it, it wasn't a bad service, I just had a bad situation which is bound to happen.

I'd suggest Teksavvy. I'm currently happy with my Rogers Extreme..but then again, you might be looking for a change hoho. I was with 3web, and i'd stay away. I was being billed for what i was supposed to be getting (5mb) but in fact i was getting 200kb. their wait times are way too long (2hours on the line and then hung up on) and when you finally get thru, their advice doesn't help at all (unplug, wait, then replug and reboot). Teksavvy is your best bet, otherwise stick with Rogers.

Like people said if you need Tech Service, 3WEB is not a place to go to.
But I'm fine on their DSL service, really not a problem if any during my stay with them. No dropouts etc. But calling them takes long...

Despite all the bad reviews, I bit the bullet and signed up for 3web..
Situation:
1. No land line (only people that called us were telemarketers) so dry-DSL service would cost an extra $9/month
2. Rogers only offered me a 10% discount after my 50% discount for 1 year expired. Felt insulted so I cancelled.
3. Looked into microwave/satellite ISP and they cost more than $60/month. They're meant for people who live in the boonies.
So really, 3web was our only choice.
Here's my experience so far:
The Good:
1. Speed is slightly better than Rogers (not sure if it's because my neighbours are on Rogers).. Getting 70ms latency from WoW vs 130ms when I was with Rogers. Less dying when I PvP.
2. They activated my service a week before I requested and didn't charge me. It didn't work because Rogers didn't do their part but it was a nice gesture.
3. Called help desk twice (Rogers issue as above) and got through within 5 minutes both times.
4. They called me to followup to make sure Rogers did what they were supposed to do and that everything was working -- I thought that was nice
The Bad:
1. They charged me $50 for Rogers installation even though they said they wouldn't -- called to reverse this but haven't seen the reversal yet (after 4 days).

Post back in 2 weeks see if you're opinion changes...
I signed up with them about 3 weeks ago for Cable. First 1.5 weeks were fine. Lately however, my connection speed slows down randomly to the point where it's almost as bad as dial up.
Call a few times but NEVER get through after being on hold for over 2 hours.
It's been less then a month and I've already cancelled my 3web service and moving to Teksavvy.

I've been using 3Web for several year now like the days when they used to offer free 56K internet access until they raised it to $9.99/month. I used the 3Web 56K internet service for long time until I got DSL.
I'm using the DSL 3Web (uses Bell's line) and I like it so far because of price, it's very good. Although download time isn't as fast as it used to be (when Bell starting capping downloads), it works great.
When I first switched over the charged double the cost and took a lot of calling back and forth for a 4 month period before it got all settled. I ended getting the extra month back, another 3 months fee for that mess. Yes, their customer service is poor with hold times are long and horrible like 1-2 hours.
