5.1 speakers but no sound card!
This is a noob question...
i got logitech z-5300 speakers but i have no sound card. all i have are the mic jacks, headphone jack and line out or whatever.
im wondering if anyone knows which jacks to plug in the center, right and left plugs? also if theres any settings i need to change in control panel.
thanks so much!!

a noob question deserves a noob answer =P
go to your local dollar store and buy 6 splitters..
lol..
plug the splitter in your headphone jack and plug another splitter on that splitter and then another splitter on top of that one.. keep repeating the process until you used up all 6 splittes and have 5 output jacks..
note* sound quality will decrease by 600%
jokes.. just get a soundcard

Hey...do you have onboard sound by any chance? If you do, you could try looking up your motherboard manual for some instructions. I have onboard sound with only three plugs. With the drivers for the sound, there's this option where you can select how many speakers you have and depending on which option you choose, the driver will designate each sound port for a different task. At default, the configuration for me is 2.0/2.1 so only my 'speaker' port works for sound output and the mic and line in are for...well...mic and line in. As I change the software for 5.1 channel output, the mic and line in ports also become speaker outputs. I don't know the arrangement but yeah...that's how it works for me I think...I've never actually tried it though.
If you have onboard sound, maybe your situation will be similar to mine.

I have a built-in Realtek 5.1 sound system like the one ASharp describes on my Gigabyte motherboard. The standard 3 jacks on the back panel are line out, line in, and mic in by default, but I can reconfigure them to be 5.1 outputs, or I can install the optional slot connector panel that came with the motherboard to add additional analog and digital outputs (which is how I actually use it). It's worth checking if you have something like that before you buy a sound card, but it's true that you can buy an add-on 5.1 sound card pretty cheap.
