Good idea for a thread
Some car forums keep a running thread on this, but nice to have one here too.
The code changes every month or two, so if we can keep posting them as they come up, that would be good.
The way it works is anytime you buy something they'll email you with the code for the next period (which is the same code for any/every one). So as long as someone, somewhere, buys something there it gets posted on forums somewhere and then carries on to other ppl--and everyone enjoys the discount

usps ground(all tax and duty included), fedex international priority, fedex international economy, express mail international
im trying to get them not to prepay tax on usps ground because usps ground often doesnt charge tax. duty doesnt seem arise very often for any shipment method.
fedex includes the brokerage but rock auto doesnt realize this. you pay ten bucks if you dont have an account with fedex. the account number must be on the shipping document. if you get a fedex account, it can be as cheap as usps ground including the pst and gst that you pay through fedex.

1. Most people shipping to canada from USA use USPS gound because they have a fixed predicable brokerage fee of $5.
Also, USPS ground often does not charge pst and gst while the other methods do. For some reason, rock auto prepays the gst and pst and the brokerage on this shipping choice. Most people would rather not prepay on this method because there is no risk of crazy brokerage charges and they often dont even charge gst and pst. Duty is rarely charged so it is a non-issue.
2.Your express mail international option is higher cost than fedex air when there is no mention that taxes are included.
Again, this is a USPS method and the brokerage is fixed at $8 so no crazy brokerage charges to be afraid of so no reason to prepay. (if they dont charge pst and gst , they also dont charge the $8 or $5 brokerage)
3.Your customer service keeps saying that fedex international priority and economy dont include brokerage. They do include brokerage so you won't be charged extra for brokerage. They do off course collect PST (provincial tax) and gst. pst and gst are fixed percentages. Duty does not come up enough to be an issue. Fedex does charge a $10 fee for collecting taxes if the person does not have an account number on the shipping document. Conclusion: either tell your customers to get an account number and put it on the shippping form or rock auto should prepay the taxes. Prepaying the taxes makes sense because im pretty sure that fedex economy and priority charge pst and gst on every shipment(over $20 value) unlike USPS.
Conclusion; you can dramatically reduce the average cost and uncertainty of shipping cost to canada by providing smarter shipping choices and informing the customers of the implications of their shipping choics.
thanks,
