6800NU or 6600GT: NEED HELP
I recently purchased a 9800pro AIW and the card had a defect in it so I returned it. I don't want to go for the same card again so I am stuck with two cards....the BFG 6800 OC ($245 at NCIX) or the BFG 6600GT ($250 a NCIX). Which card perfroms better in games and whic card is better overall? The 6600GT has DDR3 and the 6800 has DDR if that makes a difference.
*OFF TOPIC* Am I allowed to buy something $200 from futureshop with my giftcard, return it and then get cash back?

Both cards are about the same unless you unlock pipes on the 6800. I'd suggest waiting for a good sale though. I'm pretty sure you can get them for ~230$ or a bit less.

BF2 is a poorly coded piece of junk that will not run too well on even the best of computers.
2 gigs of ram is what the game consumes if you give it the opportunity to, and with sound detail on HIGH and/or with Hardware acceleration you're bound to get stuttering regardless of which card you choose probably
i'm so glad i canceled my pre-order on that piece of junk_______________

Let him play BF2 if he wants.
Anyways, Gamespot did a hardware roundup for BF2 which has these 2 cards in it. Specifically, this page.
Link
Summed up.
1600x1200
6800=35fps
6600GT=30fps
1280x960
6800=48fps
6600GT=48fps
Hope this helps.._______________

6800 DOES NOT benefit from unlocked pipelines in real-world gaming situations.
Only for benchmarks. I experienced this hands on since I had a BFG 6800OC @ 16/6 succesfully unlocked.
I did gain a nice 1500 score increase in 3D03 and 1000 in 3D05_______________Heatware

As for the question at hand, I'd say the the plain 6800 is superior to the 6600GT, and if you can successfully unlock the extra pipelines, it'll give you far more value for you money.

i used to have Leadtek 6800 from NCIX and unlocked and overclock by rivatuner.
with S754 3000+ oc to 2.4Ghz and 1G of ram, i guess my 6800 wasn't bottleneck? but the unlocked pipe does help overall in high rez.
get 6600GT if need $ for 1G of ram or try your luck for BFG 6800 and hope it unlock. Not all 6800 can be unlocked, so best of luck.
