Considering Dell's build quality, well, let me rephrase that, durability, this is a pretty good deal. It can handle everything from gaming to surfing. it will last you at least 5 years if you take good care of it.

In fact, this is a "special edition" made by Dell, here are some detailed technical reviews of this (series of) laptops, mostly positive.

i wholeheartedly agree.

but again, people are spoiled now, 15 years ago, laptops were so heavy that this "bulky" Dell would probably qualify as an ultra-ultra-book :o

When I was a student I paid $4000 for a freakin heavy Dell Laptop that I lugged around in a case and was too embarrassed to bring out during a lecture because I might appear too nerdy to have a computer while everyone else used paper and pen. And for network access had to put in a PCMCIA network card and plugged it into free network ports. This laptop would be like an ultrabook in comparison.

wow thanks for those links.

The first two links make this deal seem hot.

The third link @$680.27 looks like a molten hot deal upon first glance, but if you scrolled downed a bit or if you glanced a lot, you'd see posts like these, and realize that it was a labeling mistake, that $680.27 machine did not come with a dedicated GPU (or SSD it seems)
Tabooger wrote: The guy on the review says he got an Intel 4000 instead.
salescub wrote: Yeah, without the graphics this would be standard fare. Would be nice to know what going on with this one then. - On the Dell site there is no version of this without dedicated 7730m.
so all in all, i'd say the $800 price tag for this deal seems quite hot-ish.

pretty decent for a laptop

Personally the ACER Ultrabook in the other thread is a better deal.

Hardware wise, 100% agreed.

But build quality wise, i think this Dell wins.

See this short review of that Acer for more details.

The specs are great but too bad it's kinda fat and ugly.

Great deal otherwise.

Unfortunately, $800 is still a bit above what some (including myself) would pay for a laptop :(

Appreciate the thanks though.

I think I'd hold out for Alienware, ASUS, or MSI -- if I wanted a powerful gaming laptop. I think there are deals that will roll around under $1000, with even better specs.

Dell build quality has gone to ***** in the past few years, except for overpriced Alienware. Lol

Lenovo Y series is good value at around this price range, if you don't mind the bulk (clearly we don't if we're comparing to this laptop)
