Play nice guys & gals!
I am debating whether I should purchase the PB now or wait for the Asus quad-core expected to release in the second quarter this year. I am taking a trip later this month, and I don't really want to lug my laptop along.
Hmmm. What to do?

People say browsing is really good on the PB, so is it possible to make the browser behave as a real computer browser? Like in the Dolphin HD browser for Honeycomb, you can choose desktop mode so website dont recognize the tablet as a mobile device. Is this possible in the PB?

professional tablet is an oxymoron. It will play local videos and flash video sites better than some tablets. Limited apps compared to IOS and android (as I type this on my HP touchpad...) someone else will have to speak to the native video playback ability. Will it play XVIDS and MKV is the question to ask.

17in laptops usually cost more than 15-inchers. 23in AIOs cost more than 18in AIOs. Larger iMacs cost more than smaller ones... See the trend?
13in subnotebooks with full-size power cost more because it costs more to build them in the first place. Miniaturisation comes at a cost.
Portability may be important to you, but not for everybody. Besides, is that expensive 13in subnotebook more portable than a 10in tablet? Of course not.
And as for tablets, are you saying that Apple was wrong to build 10in iPads rather than 7in? Are all those iPad buyers wrong because they didn't buy your beloved little 7in Playbook? The market spoke, and the 7in PB got trounced.
And as for you, Coz4k, your infantile post and name speak volumes. Mummy should have had you tucked away in bed hours ago. GET TO SLEEP!_______________
Manchester United - winners of the English league for an all-time record 19 times. A mere 2 minutes away from making it No. 20 this season.
Champs for a reason. We play the FULL season. Sadly this season City got 2 minutes extra.

just trolling, but a 7" tablet should be less than a 10" because the volume of each produced is similar , and the 7" has a smaller screen that should be cheaper to make. less plastic, less shipping, less everything.
a 13.3" laptop vs 15.6 falls within competition, economy of scale and perceived value. it's actually not a good comparison.

Just wanted to point out that much of the pricing of items is based on perceived value. The biggest reason why many 17" are more expensive than 15.4 or 15.6 is because of perceived value that bigger should cost more, when the difference can often be minimal.
example CQ50 15.4, CQ60 15.6, CQ70 17 at one point were all identical in mobo, cpu, ram, dvd, etc... The only difference between the 3 was screen size, a few lenghts of ribbon cable and a couple extensions for the optical drive. Actual cost difference between the 3, I am guessing but was likely around the $20-40 range, yet were priced 100+ apart.

you clearly did not study engineering or design
you clearly did not study engineering or design.
The volume is not similar between the 10 inch tablets and this 7inch. To squeeze in the same functionality, battery life, and controls in a smaller package requires smaller parts and more intricate design work; which brings the cost up. Anyway, I have owned this playbook 64GB for 1 month now, I paid $270 including tax with Staples coupons.
All I do with my Playbook is the following, and it does it pretty well:
1) Stream videos (icefilms, etc)
2) Internet Browsing is just like a PC (as someone asked above)
3) Play all the moves through HDMI cable on my big screen TV (the tablet ends up being a remote control, pretty cool?)
4) Keep library of all my photos and movies, I show people my photography instead of on my iphone (I like the slightly bigger screen for this reason).
5) I am writing a movie script I'm making and the Word processing is awesome.
6) At work I use it to make presentations using the included Powerpoint software. (awesome)
7) I will soon try to use it as a GPS in my car instead of my Garmin (Still to be tested). so overall I think for $200 taxes in (if you can get the 32GB or 64G, then this is a GREAT product..and we havent even received the IMPROVED OS yet...so imagine how much better it's going to get.)
Remember, RIM has a lot riding on the sales of these playbooks..they want to get back customers... not just sell a ****** product and look even more worse than they do already.
And yes, I know many other tablets can do some of the above things with a bigger screen size, but PORTABILITY is KEY!

I've been able to do all the above for the past year or so with my similarly priced (in 2010) AMD K125 netbook. I can also hook up an OTA HD TV tuner to watch and/or record TV shows wherever I take it. I can hook up an external DVD drive (or even BR I suppose) to watch movies, run PC s/w, etc. It has a built-in 250GB HDD (which I could very easily replace) and the ability to plug in external HDDs - essential if your photo and media library is larger than the 50GB or so max that your PB can fit. I easily upgraded the RAM to a more-than-sufficient 4GB. And at just 10in I find it more than portable enough. But perhaps size is more of an issue for little guys and ladies than it is for me. Personally, I don't think I could stand working with a tiny screen any smaller than 10in. Even as it is, I hook it up to a larger display whenever possible. I couldn't really work with a smaller kbd either.
