The car has now been plated, therefore the dealer cannot sell it as a new car anymore. Has to be sold as a "used car"

You're going to lose minimum 10-15% of the value off the top.

Maybe look into transferring the lease to someone else on Kijiji/Leasebuster.

Doubtful. The dealer can't sell your current vehicle as new. Not only does that impact its value, it also means that they can't offer factory incentives and factory lease/finance rates to prospective customers.

Enjoy your new vehicle!

Is there some sort of way that you can return a vehicle to the dealer (it's a 4 year lease) and get a different one? I assume the answer is no, or yes with tons of penalties, but am just honestly curious before I bother my salesman. Has anyone ever done this before? Can I return it to a different Ford dealer and do this? Any insight is appreciated.
I would say to talk to your dealer ASAP. The more you drive and longer you have it, the less likely anything can be done. And you definitely would want to go back and talk to your original dealer, not a different dealer. It's not like they share money from one dealership to the other (unless they happen to be owned by the same company, but even then the dealer managers are probably in competition with each other).

It's a sunroof...who cares.
I have dual panel sunroof and it's never opened.

i agree. be happy without it,its only 4 years and you get to choose again.
our 2014 has the panaroof and it very seldom gets used( possibly 8-10 times).
on our 2015 i decided not to get one with it , and am happy with the decision.
i would not try and turn this back in and lose 2 or 3 thousand(possibly more) plus the cost of the upscale model or
the $1750 extra that the panaroof costs by itself as an option.
this could turn out to be one hell of an expensive sunroof.

congrats on the 2018 escape ,our is going back in september(lease pull ahead) or march 2019 (end of lease) .
definitely getting another used 2017 titanium or new 2018.

both have been very good cars , and the dealership has been fantastic.
