Hi All, Off late, I started observing that my car jerks off suddenly and at the same time RPM goes up suddenly up to 4 and then come down. I showed it to my mechanic and he told me that it's a tranny issue and it needs to be replaced. For temporary fix, he changed the Tranny Fluid(LUCAS) as I don't want to spend huge amount in replacing the tranny. The car is already driven 275000 KMs and I have spent alot on it such as Timing Belt change, New all season Tires, Front & Rear Brake pads & rotors, gasket valve etc. The engine is in good condition. I would like your opinion on selling my car as if I sell it as in it's current condition, how much it would fetch. The car interiors & exteriors are still look good.Kindly provide your comments.

275000 kilometers is high mileage and i would say around 2000-2500 depending on the body.

Your looking at 3k at least for the rebuilt transmission. I would say around 2000-3000 is a fair price.
It'll run for another 80k km if your lucky with the new tranny.

Surprising the first tranny lasted 275k. Assuming its a 2000 or 2001: $1500.

Yeah..I am thinking of this option as well. Just went to a mechanic and he quoted 2000 CAD to rebuild the transmission. He also gives 23000K or 1 year warranty. It's not a Transmission shop. Do anyone know a good Transmission shop in Markham/North York area? Thanks for your help

If you don't want to spend a lot of extra money to buy a new car, it's not worth it to sell. Just get it replaced with a rebuilt one and drive it to the ground. I also have a 2000 3.2TL. I now replace the transmission fluid every year. With the exception of the transmission, it's been a very reliable car up to this point with very minimal issues other than typical maintenance items.
For me, because as a University student I had driven a 1988 Acura Legend (passed down to me) until it was 18 years old. Even at 18 years, it wasn't like the engine or transmission gave in - it just got to the point where there was one inconvenient couple hundred dollar component to replace after another plus the inconvenience of the problems occuring at the worst possible time (middle of the road, etc.). I would find it unacceptable for the TL to to not last nearly as long. At 12 years now, it's nothing. Car is just entering its prime. Haha.Last edited by kenchau; Aug 7th, 2012 at 02:16 PM.

Try to see if you can get a good will warranty out of it.
