Acura TL or Infiniti G35 Coupe?

Hey,

Well recently Winnipeg got hit with a wave of G35 Coupes. But there is currently an Acura TL 2004 Navi, with 42,000km. Its at a very competitive price making me reconsider the coupes. Now I have to choose between the G35 Coupe or the Acura TL. Any input you guys provide will be appreciated on which car would be the better choice.

Year of the coupe? and what is the price of the TL and G35 coupe?

In any case, have you test drive them? both of them are COMPLETELY different cars. One of a family sedan while the other is a coupe. If you have a family, the sedan is the obvious choice. If you want to something that looks nice and has no worry of driving more than yourself, the coupe is right for you.

Oh, one more thing, you getting auto or manual?

lets break it down for you so it will easier to comprehend.

G35

PROS
-faster than TL
-RWD, which means you will feel pushed backed instead of bring dragged
-even though looks is subjective, I think the majority of the people here will think that the g35 looks better
-handles better (RWD!)

CONS
-a bit on the heavy side, lots of body roll
-crappy interior, depends on year, 03-04 had relatively crappy interior, 05-07 has minor improvements.
-eats gas like a mofo, expect to get mileage worst than a corvette Z06.
-can drive in snow, yes, even in snow tires.

TL

PROS
-cheaper
-has better interior than G35
-better mileage
-can drive in snow
-arguably an easier car to handle since its FWD

CONS
-performance is worst in G35 coupe in every way
-FWD?

I had a G35 coupe, so i m biased. So get the G35 coupe

This one's a no brainer IMO. G35 plain and simple. If you're that worried about winter driving (and actually you defiintely should be with a RWD G35) then get the G35x sedan instead. It's not a good idea to drive a RWD version in the winter. Winter tyres are definitely a must for that car in the winter, but I would not recommend the RWD in the winter period.

The TL, well it's a TL, LOL. Exterior styling stolen from BMW; it's FWD; it's Honda; it's lame. I think I like the TSX better than the TL... Between these two though definitely the G35.

I wouldn't buy a new car for it. For that kind of fun, once or twice is enough.

With RWD either you want it, or you don't care. If you really have to ask then it probably won't make any difference. For a FWD, you can't get much better than Honda/Acura. If they made a AWD accord V6 coupe I would be all over it.

I wasn't just talking RWD... Have you ever driven a G35 in the winter (on stock all-seasons)? If you have you would know what I'm talking about. And no, going absolutely nowhere in a couple inches of snow and a bit of ice is definitely not fun, trust me.

There are RWD cars that drive okay in the snow and yes RWD can be fun in snow, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking specifically about the G35 RWD versions in snow. They are really, really bad. You might be able to get away with it when the roads are cleared (which they are usually cleared quite well in cities like Toronto) but run into an uncleared road, driveway, etc. otherwise while on stock tyres and you better call a tow truck or at least a bunch of your buddies to help push you...

I agree, winter tires are a MUST HAVE for rwd cars. I just feel that shouldn't be a showstopper

My past 5 vehicles have all been RWD, and winters are fun.

btw, I would choose the G35 Coupe over the Acura TL, just purely based on fun factor. If you are looking for more comfort and better interior, the TL. If it were the TL TypeS, it is a different story, are there any of those?

depending on the year of the G35 coupe, watch out for uneven tire wear....

I think this was a probably with the first year model but was fixed in subsequent years. There have been a few threads on this in this forum.

Also depends on space. The G35 coupe has a small trunk space and a smaller rear seating space compared to the TL.

If the OP is family oriented, you might be better off with a TL.

If you go for the G35 coupe, try to stay away from the years that had the pairing of manual transmissions and brembo brake kit...sure thier great but when it comes time to change them...it can cost a pretty penny. Then if you got the non brembo, you'll have to check with the dealer about the special service bulletin on the non brembo brakes problem.

As mentioned, everything else comes secondary - you have to drive them yourself!

If you are thinking AUTO, then TL it is.

Do you have a winter beater?

If so, I would go with the G35. Looks wise, it is one of the most beautiful cars on the road. Peformance wise, it will eat up the TL.

However, I know Winnipeg has really, really bad winters. Having the G35 as your primary vehicle just isn't practical.

If you only have one car to drive, I think the TL is the way to go. The Type S is a great choice if it is in your price range.

I prefer the g35 looks. The TL is nice, 4 doors, but FWD kills it for me.
My next car, I'd go for rwd or 4wd. My preference.

I am not family oriented as we have a Honda Accord for that purpose. The reason I really like the Acura TL is the interior is 10x better than the Infiniti G35.

Pros
---------
RWD (I love RWD, true sports car)
Awseome Torque
Love the looks (not a fan of sedan, only coupe)
decent performance
put a rear aero spoiler and a front lip and this car is the best looking thing on the road imo

Cons
-------
Living in Winnipeg (Snow)
Engine redline is quite low (I am looking at FI once warranty runs out)
Automatic (only ones i can afford in Winnipeg, are the Autos)
Interior is horrible for a luxury coupe (03-04)
Price is a bit higher than a TL

Acura TL
---------
Pros:
-------------
Love the style of it
Car definately is not slow
interior is beautful and love the navi system ("Go Home")
Sound system is one of the best in the world
Automatic gearbox is better than one in G35, it blips during downshifts in tiptronic, G35 autos didnt do this until 2005

Cons:
--------------------
FWD (torque steer)
not much fun appeal, more business than sport
