Hard to say. I guess it gets to a certain point where its scanning something that it does not like and jsut messes up for whatever reason.
You can try re-downloading the program then update it and then run a scan see if that helps.
Also try other programs like Spy Bot Search & Destroy & ms Defender.

Ad-Aware problems
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Ad-Aware but still having the same problems.
Before I didn't have this problem.
After running the scan for a while on Ad-Aware, the number of scans pauses, and then the only thing I can do is to cancel at that point. Then when I cancel, I used to be able to see the ads found so far, but now it just blanks out as soon as I press cancel.
I'm wondering what's causing the pause, and why I'm unable to delete the bad registries.

Don't use ad-aware that software is a piece of garbage IMO. I use Spyware Blaster / Spyware Doctor / Spysweeper/ Hijack This to scan my system for any spyware/adware/malware. You could also invest in Kapernesky.
