Additional HST Numbers (same legal entity)
Hi All,
I've been scouring the CRA website but cannot find the information.
Scenario 1 (SP):
John Smith registered HST for himself (sole proprietor) in 2010. Is John Smith allowed to register for another HST account in 2011 for a separate sole proprietorship?
Scenario 2 (Corp):
ABC Inc. registered for HST in 2010. Is ABC Inc. allowed to register for another HST number in 2011 for the same business?
Any references to the CRA website would be helpful as well.
Thanks All!

both cases should be doable.
Normally what would happen is that you would have your standard 9 digt number, and instead of RT 0001, it would be RT 0002 and so on

I used to have the rt001 and rt002 for two separate businesses, but was later told by cra they could be merged into 1

Thank you for the replies.
Just to confirm my knowledge, are the below two cases TRUE?
John Smith cannot have 2 identical HST numbers (11111 2222 RT0001)
ABC Inc. cannot have 2 identical HST numbers (33333 4444 RT0001)
If the same legal entity applies for another HST number, the "RT" will increment?
Regards

technically speaking, you cannot have two numbers
HOWEVER, ABC Inc. could use the same number for any of its activities, however their would only be one account
John Smith could also probably use the same number for his differetn activity, but then you do get into combining activities
If you want a separate program account, yes the RT will increment
