so my laptop suddenly stopped showing up on shared network places
I try to do the right click and properties and clicking allow shared files, etc...
but it comes up with this error message
"An Error occurred while trying to share C. The Server service is not started. The Shared resource was not created at this time."
no idea what it is
I've turn on and off Windows firewall, still receiving the message...
the router still works, file sharing from other PC's still works
it was after a bunch of windows update i decided to do after being neglected for months
i cannot see other PC folders, nor can mine be shared
any ideas?

How about try restarting your computer so the services will be re-established? Otherwise, maybe something accidentally turned off the service for file-sharing. Go into Control Panel, Admin Tools, Services and see if it has been disabled.

Have you tried
1. Right click My Computer and select Manage.
2. Double click Services and Applications.
3. Double click Services.
4. Scroll down the list of services and double click Server.
5. Click the Start button.
6. Set the Startup type to Automatic.
7. Click Apply and OK.
