Ahimi - Tomato-based tuna alternative

Anybody ever try this?

One of the local poke places serves this and I might give it a try. Apparently they also have a carrot-based salmon and eggplant-based unagi alternative in development too.

Is it cheaper than real tuna?
If so, it wouldn't surprise me if Japanese AYCE's start serving that instead of the real tuna.
Then again...is it less filling than the real tuna? If so...maybe not? Who knows...?

So I tried it out. Certainly looks similar to tuna. On first bite, texture is similar to tuna, but on subsequent bites, you can definitely tell it's tomato-based. Taste-wise it has some similarity to tuna that has already been seasoned with soy sauce. IMHO, definitely not a replacement for tuna, but for vegetarians it might be an option
