- first create an account on your PC with a password (or use an existing one that has a password).
- Share the folder you want to this user.
- On the AIOS go to "File Manager" -> "Network" -> Your workgroup Name -> Your PC Name.
- when prompted for a password just use the user/pass you created in the first step.
- Done all the shared folders should now be accessible.
There is more involved methods that gives you more flexibility (but lets see you will end up hating the browsing method enough to go through telnet and scripting).
All guides are
here.
Best of luck,

Oddly the sn on the back of my aios player has one digit more than the sn on the carton. 0007Z7550220945 on the aios back and 0007Z755020945 on the carton. I re did my rebate request again using the sn from the carton, it was originally done with the player case sn with out the 5 at the end. The one from the back of the aios wouldn't let me add the last digit a five as 14 digits is the max though it accepted the sn missing the last digit and the one from the carton missing a 2. Not sure how or if this would effect the rebate or if redoing my online submission a second time has fudged mine, just something to consider. The numbers I posted are not my actual sn just examples.

I have connected AIOS to my TV using HDMI but there is a thin vertical green bar on the very right. Also the left got cut off a bit. Is it my TV or AIOS?
Thanks!

do you have any over/under scanning settings on your display ?
There is nothing on the AIOS side except changing the HDMI cable.

I was having some video issues with a few different HDMI cables, or maybe just the act of plugging/unplugging the cables fixed it.

What's the best custom firmware to use and is there only 1?

There is 2 options to try (Semiofficial R19 and XtrAIOS 3.0.12), its just a few minutes back and forth just be sure to apply the firmware in panic recovery mode.
I would personally recommend the Semiofficial one but to each his own.

my Aios is being delivered tomorrow.
I have a 2 TB 5400 external drive I'll be connecting to it and I have a 3TB Barracuda 7200rpm SATA III w/ 64MB Cache (ST3000DM001) on its way...
For the 3TB drive, I'm assuming all I have to do is install it in the Aios and it takes care of itself? (network access, formatting etc)

WD Green 3TB were reported to work without a problem.
That said, I wouldn't recommend a high RPM HDD for this setup (its just media storage, no need for so much speed and so much heat).

this seems much easier vs jailbreaking apple tv etc... other than that, how does this compare to it? do u have to have a internal HD inside or can u just play directly from a external drive?

If I only use it to watch a movie or tv show from my network is it worth the upgrade? I see that there is youtube? Can I connected a wireless mouse/keyboard?

Newbie
hey aasoror,
i followed your PBO thread before and i finally ordered the Pivos Aios. i was looking at the Semiofficial Firmwares and saw that there is a link for an update for bootcode 18. if our systems bootcode is not 18, do we update the SO 2.8.2.8 R10 (with BC18) bootcode first and then flash AIOS_AASOROR-R19_3.0.1.7 firmware or vice versa?

correct, if you are on BC18 already then just jump directly to R19.
