Lame

10% is probably for BASE FARE only, so not too useful for those crazy high surcharge routes like YYZ-CDG (like $150 base fare + $450 carrier admin/fees/tax)
10% Air Canada Promotional Code: The 10% discount applies exclusively to the eligible Air Canada published Tango and Flex base fares only. Base fares form part of the applicable air transportation charges. Surcharges, which are also included in the air transportation charges, as well as applicable taxes, fees and charges, are not discounted. The promotional discount does not apply to codeshare and interline flights.

My parents are planning to book a flight early next year to China. So this could save them in total of $200. Looks good to me. thanks OP!

Than they might be better off with this deal for around $600 to China.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I take it that when you purchase a flight with a gift card (or just in part) you forfeit at least most of your credit card travel insurances (baggage, flight delay, etc) with the exception of medical.

Th heading says "Black Friday Deal: Toronto to China", the body says "(and hopefully Toronto)" and yes the image off the Air China website doesn't show TO.
If you can just wait and see what happens.

Anyone know if there is a risk associated with buying Air Canada gift cards off someone? I'm going to buy them from a guy and immediately book the ticket, is there any chance that the tickets can be revoked in the future for whatever reason? My research indicates that this won't happen, but I thought I'd ask.

If it is like $500 or so, I won't do it, that's just me. Revoke, maybe if they are found to be bought with a stolen CC.

RESP said that this promo is not with the special offer together~ Also, the promo code just have a few days valid, maybe two weeks or a month tops.

So quote there saying is that " it is just a way to sell more before X'max "

Does this actually happen though? I don't see how that is fair to do with gift cards that are treated like "cash" and cannot be refunded if lost/stolen.
If GCs are bought with a stolen CC and then someone sells it to someone else who thinks it's legitimate, then the CC cancels the giftcards, that doesn't seem right to me.

Here are a couple of articles:

Go down to the question that opens up with the answer.

Unless you know the person I wouldn't take a chance, after all it might be a vacation where you booked time off, made arrangements and so.

I'm actually going to meet up with this guy today and I'm going to book the flight tickets on the spot using the giftcards. I'm not going to buy the giftcards so much as he's paying for my tickets with his giftcards and I am paying him cash.

He claims to have used these himself for flights so I will try to get some evidence of that. I will also call air canada to verify the GCs are ok. How does that sound?

Nope, you're absolutely correct - paying with gift cards will invalidate most insurance. There are some that allow you to utilize a different form of payment, but I believe it would need to be less than 25% of it (75% has to be on that credit card).
