With a Reserve AMEX CC, it might be not easy to spend $3000 in the first 3 months, as many Canadian merchants do not accept AMEX...
Depends on when you get it. I got the AMEX business platinum, which had spend of $5000 for the rewards points, just before going on vacation did it for me.
I should have got this card before the holidays but I still think $3000 is doable with cable bills, phone bills, gas etc. If there is a shortfall buy some grocery, gas GCs

Only place that doesn’t take it is superstore really and the odd store here or there. All other grocery stores aside from Costco as well take it. Gas stations take it, most restaurants and like previously mentioned paying bills etc....

I have been struggling to meet a min spend on an Amex recently - my barber wouldn't take it, MTO won't take it for registration renewal, the restaurant I went to on Saturday in Chelsea QC wouldn't take it (although most restaurants do), Loblaws/Superstore/etc won't take it. It's hit or miss for me.

As former owner of a couple of Amex cards, I think I know what I am talking about.

I had to close my Amex cards as they were not accepted at Costco that is my main shopping place. Besides that, several other places where I usually shop have refused to accept them. I really struggled to spend 3k in 3 months. To my recollection, I even did some spends that I would never do otherwise.

To fulfill the spending requirement for a new CC (MasterCard), I usually buy a few $1k Costco gift cards that are good for my groceries for a long time. Not possible to do that with Amex.

I found it hard as well - unless you are travelling and then it happens too fast.

I had to :
Switch to Irving Heat Oil - and fill up the oil tank
Switch Koodo Prepaid and Monthly bills over
Switch Bell Aliant - over for 3 months
Pay for ALL gas
Amazon : add it to list of credit cards and use
Theatre - most take it
Use Sobey's - switch away from Superstore
Lawton's takes it
We did have some travel at the time and that helped alot

I have found that AMEX goes in and out of favour

In 1970s ... almost no where took it
In the 1980s and 1990s ... almost everywhere took it
And since 2000 .., with the changes in the economy (particularly the 2007 US Recession)
More & more merchants are opting out, citing their monthly costs to offer it to their customers

So I have definitely seen a down turn in the number of Restaurants, Gas Stations & Stores that accept it

Where it still is highly honoured though is the Travel Industry ... Airlines, Cruises, Hotels etc
Probably because so many Corporations use it as their primary card for Employee Travel Expenses
That AMEX Business Travel Organization Plan is a sweet perk where they do a lot of the Quarterly & Annual Reporting Paperwork

In the Atlantic This week : There is a Blue Friday at Sobey's on January 11th.
Lots of air miles - but some volumes required.

Also at Sobey's 50 Air Miles on January 11th if you purchase 100 $ - the coupon for this is in the Flyer

So it can be pretty lucrative if you need stuff.

Also at Lawtons Drugstore :
95 Air Miles when you purchase $ 35 worth of compliments products.

I normally do this one - like getting $ 10 back on $ 35 spend which is not bad.

So ended up applying for the reserve card doing a self referral though my regular AMEX air miles card. With this referral the reserve has a bonus of 3000 airmiles not 2400, so better.

I have heard self referrals don't work, but we will see what happens.

In Manitoba Blue Friday at Sobey's/Safeway.

I think it must be a misprint but they have 50 AM wub 2 Barilla Ready Pasta ($2 each). And I have $1 coupons. Would be very nice if it happened.

Sobey’s Blue Fridays have been more of a miss than a hit for me since we started seeing them here in Ontario about 6 months ago.

But this week’s flyer / Friday ... definitely has me interested.

* The Tide 4+ Litre Jugs at $ 18.99 are incredibly priced (over $ 20 at Costco) ... Buy 2 = 100 BAMs
* The Prime Chicken Wings at $ 7.99 are a good price ... Buy 2 = 50 BAMs
* Dempster’s Tortillas at 2 / $ 7 ... Buy 2 = 20 BAMs
* Olivieri Pastas & Sauces starting at $ 4.99 ... Buy 4 = 50 BAMs
The Pillers Fully Cooked Hams at $ 9.99 ... Buy 2 = 10 BAMs
The NY Bagels at $ 0.59 each ... Buy 6 = 10 BAMs
* And the Spend $ 100 ... get 100 BAMs —-> COUPON REQUIRED

All caught my eye this week as good deals.

* Blue Friday ~ January 11th only

Definitely cheaper for me, where I am in Eastern Ontario vs Costco
Where I have bought these large jugs previously

Cannot speak to other stores, or areas of Canada
So YMMV
