I'm currently using an X800XL AGP AIW.
I upgraded from an AIW 9600XT and before that an AIW 8500 DV.

AIW AGP Video Card Recommendation?
I currently have a ATI AIW 9000 AGP card and just wondering what a decent upgrade within the AIW AGP line would be?
I hear having DVI connector is a must especially if one has a nice Dell 2007WFP monitor!
Not all the AIW cards come with a DVI connector I think.
Would like to hear other people's thoughts on this.
PS. I am totally confused about ATI's naming convention.
Thanks!

The ATI AIW x800 xt is the fastest AGP with all the encoding capturing features. I have one and it works well. The x800 has DVI and can handle an 2007wfp no problem.
The AIW 9800 pro is much the same just less performance. The capture is the same for both.

Aug 1st, 2006 04:55 PM #6it's a decent card but the cc one doesn't come with a remote, the aiw 9800 pro is a better choice if you are on a budget.

Why do you even need to upgrade your videocard? I'm assuming it's to play the newer games correct? If so, you will not see a huge difference between an AIW 9000 to an AIW 9800pro. You will get better bang for your buck going with the AIW X800 line.

How about the AIW 9700? I remember trying to get one off ebay, but was pretty expensive.

Don't know if you're aware of the ATI product comparison page. Let's you compare up to three graphics cards (including discontinued models) with a lot of useful info.
BTW - I also have an AIW 9000 Pro and just can't justify an upgrade for what I do.

How do you like your current 9000 card? I just got a Dell 2007WFP monitor (not recieved yet) and was afraid that I was filling up ferrari with water downed gasoline if you know what I mean. I'm pretty happy with the AIW features and that's why I stuck with the line in this case.

I have no complaints about my AIW 9000 Pro. I was actually looking at getting a 19" wide-screen LCD monitor (native resolution 1440 X 900) about a month ago. I submitted a ticket to ATI support and after a couple of emails back and forth I finally got the following reply:

You may be able to use the resolution but will probably have to use a 3rd party application like Powerstrip.
AIW 9600 series and higher and Radeon 9500 series and higher cards support wide screen aspect ratio monitors.

Just got my 2007WFP and my aiw 9000 is able to support the native resolution. I was able to play some video and did not see any ghosting or lag effects.

Aug 7th, 2006 11:44 AM #14The monitor is fantastic and I am glad that my aiw 9000 works. I do notice some lag when maximizing and minimizing windows.. just a little.
