The question was who is doing this, the answer was Apple I agree with you, that you don't want the latest soft on such an old phone, it will be useable and stable but not fast. I don't think you can install on any Android phone which is 5 years old latest OS.
I am thinking giving this a try, as a backup phone.

Planning on buying this for use on Rogers, and to use on China Mobile when I visit the country.
Redmi 5:
FDD LTE B5:850 /B8:900 /B3:1800 /B1:2100 /B7:2600 B4:1700 /B20:800
TD LTE B38:2600 / B40:2300
Trying to understand the bands here -- can confirm this works for China Mobile?

Not sure what bands for note 5 pro will be but reviews are very promising.
I think its better to wait for note 5 pro.

I highly doubt it's a Xiaomi official store, but looks like they sell a butt load of phones.
Reviews are favorable as well.
I ordered.
And don't forget eBates

It doesn't let me select anything. Keeps on saying select a color.
Anybody else has the same problem.

I would like to try Xiaomi, but I'm worried about spyware on Xiaomi phones.

Does 3GB/32GB suffice?
Worried about lack of app storage.
I'm using a OnePlus One now.

Guess it depends on use, for me as long as I can drop pictures and music on the SDCard I am more than good with 32GB

Really good phone. Hopefully I can snatch this up for ~$150 someday.
Bitcoin will crash hard.

Update....
So i got my phone...it took 26 days to arrive, but it only shipped 8 days after purchase due to Chinese New Year backlog
Phone build quality is awesome. Definitely has a premium feel to it
Updated OTA to latest MIUI with zero problems
I needed to manually add Rogers LTE APN as only the 3G was registered. Getting LTE speeds now
Getting used to MIUI, but so far so good. It's actually a pretty nice
UI is completely English. I have yet to see any Chinese characters anywhere
Overall very impressed with a very recent phone that cost me $192 (CDN)
I did however get dinged with a Canadian Border Agency processing fee and taxes ($18).
I have ordered many things overseas through China/Singapore Post and this is the very first time I had to pay anything
If anyone is interested is this phone the seller is having a sale which starts in about 17 hrs...states $178.50 (CAD)
