Milton and Bradford are at least an hour appart.. that's quite the difference.
As for selecting a builder, look through builders listings on Tarion.
As for which is better, if you are buying something under $500K, you are probably going to get luck of the draw as those builders are there to run a very quick and tight business to make money, not friends.
When you start going higher end, you have more flexibility in terms of what you can do and better post closing service.

Thank for the advice, i will checkout the Tarion and http://www.hawthornevillager.com/phpbb/index.php.
The reason i am thinking between Milton and Bradford is because they are within my budget ($350 to $380K all in) for detached 2000sq.ft and within 1h drive to Toronto.

feedback needed from new Starlane home owners
Hi,
Our family moved into a new Starlane home in the boxgrove markham area ~1 year 7 months ago.
There are a lot of noises that we hear throughout the house. In the masterbedroom the floorboards snap when someone walks across them
We have a 1/2 wall between the family room and kitchen and there's always a drip-drip noise. The boards creak near the fireplace. The pipes rattle when we open the kitchen sink. Some of the staircase steps make a noise when you step on them.
There are some other concerns also. But I don't know if anyone else with a Starlane home has these issues. Our home was apparently the last one built on the block. Could that have something to do with it?? When we call Starlane to come in to assess it, the problem is that the the noises aren't as pronounced when they come in. Also, Starlane comes in a for a very short time so if they don't hear the noise right away, they think there's nothing wrong. Is there a way to record the noise? I don't think a standard recorder would work though.
We're just extremely disappointed and disheartened that our concerns are being taken so lightly. These are the kinds of noises we wanted to avoid with a new house because one hears these noises in some of the older houses.

I bought a starlane detached in stouffville 4 months ago.We had a décor appointment and everything went well so far.Letss see how is the workmanship for Starlane but have heard good things about them so far.
Layout is nice for most houses and community looks good too for 500k budget

I have been in my Great Gulf Home for 1.5 years now. The customer service is great, they are timely and I haven't had an issue with them.
As for improvements (options) that I chose were items that would prove to be difficult to do in the future i.e. 9' ceilings, oak staircase, rough in basement washroom. I also opted for the skylight as putting one in later might compromise the roof and cause leakage.
Some builders offer smart wiring and others it is an option. Always ask about items you do not see on their lists. I asked about closing in the loft and I know have a 5th bedroom/office and it only cost me $500.
