[Always] Allen Edmonds '2 for $300' Sale til Nov 22

More offers from Always
I've tried to make this opening post as informative as possible. There is no irrelevant information so if you are not pressed for time, please read the whole post starting from the introduction.

This sale is offered sometimes by the 'Allen Edmond's Shoe Bank' and it's on again through Nov 22, 2012.

These shoes are for 'Factory Seconds' which refers to shoes that have little defects and/or blemishes. Popular opinion states that these are generally very subtle and would not go noticed; furthermore, after wearing any new shoes for a few days, they become the same standing as these AE factory seconds.

Some of the styles available: Mayfair; Tampa; Links; Walden; Brooks brothers shoes. N.B. The Brooks Brothers variants (also made by AE) are the same as the AE variants in style. However, they differ in their sole -- BB models use a leather sole with a rubber sole guard (see here) while AE completely uses leather. Both soles can be re-crafted and/or resoled to either BB or AE sole (according to AE's re-crafting department).

Instructions to Order:
Contact shoebank@allenedmonds.com for more sizes, availability, and more details -- you can just shoot them an email with your shoe sizing and they will return with a list. Be sure to include your width as well, e.g. 11C. Here is the sizing guide, and it works quite well insofar as it is scaled correctly: SIZING GUIDE.

You can order by telephone or e-mail. Their number is 262-284-7158.

Shipping:
"Shipping charges to Canada is $25 for the first pair and $5 for each additional pair[.]"

Duties and Taxes:
There should be no duties (as per the NAFTA) as these shoes are made in the USA. However, some reported that there were erroneously charged duties; rest assured, you can always claim a return from courier. There are, however, taxes for these shoes. Of course, you can, and should request for the shoes to be shipped by USPS.

There was a previous thread discussing a past sale which can be found here.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask here, so that everyone can see both the question and the answer (if it exists).

P.S. I've ordered an extra pair of Walnut Strands in 11D. If anyone wants them - pm me.

This was a KILLER deal last time. I participated in the last one in August 2012.

Great experience dealing with the company. Enjoyable participation from RFD forum members as well. I ended up buying two pairs that were a size too small and one width too narrow and felt horrible. I ended up reselling them on eBay a few weeks ago, recouping virtually every penny back (even the money I gave to UPS for customs fees, miraculously), so I was happy that it wasn't like a car where the value plummets 25% as soon as you drive it off the dealer lot.

My shoes were in superb condition too, which was just gravy. Couldn't tell they were factory seconds except for some tiny marks on the soles. Here were mine:

So glad this sale is on again! Now I'll get two pairs that actually fit me. Time to see what's being offered this round.

Hot damn, thanks for uploading pictures of some of the available styles. I can't decide without pictures, like when it comes to buying ice cream from an ice cream truck. The pictures matter! :)

If anyone manages to get a list of available sizes, styles, and colours, post them here... maybe we can create a pseudo-exhaustive list! I sent my size to Allen Edmonds Shoebank so hopefully I'll receive a reply within 1 business day like last time. Their customer service is very responsive.

Nice to see the Fifth Avenue is offered. If they don't have the Park Avenue, I will not complain about settling for a pair of the Fifth Avenue in black to go with my suit. For the second pair, maybe the Neumok in blue for casual wear and call them my "pimp shoes". Or be conservative and get a second pair of Fifth Avenue in brown (to also go with my navy suit?) ;)

$52.18 for customs with UPS. Duties fees were left as zero on the paperwork adhered to the Allen Edmonds shipping box exterior. But that $52.18 customs stung bad. I'll try USPS this time. Here's my breakdown of how I recouped my money selling my two pairs on eBay recently:
CanadaGooseForumAdmin wrote: I managed to eBay my two pairs of Allen Edmonds (pictured way above) for $257.50 + $40.00 shipping. The shipping actually cost me only $20.72 to ship both pairs in one box. Recall that I paid $381.67 for the two pairs plus two pairs of cedar shoe trees, with $52.18 for UPS customs. Then for some reason, Allen Edmonds refunded $120.25 back to my credit card which was just gravy!

So I managed to recoup a significant amount of money (losing only $36.82 out of my own pocket overall) that otherwise would have been wasted since the shoes were too small for me. And I still have both pairs of shoe trees that didn't get sold and I'd guess that together they're worth more than $36.82. RFD... bargain hunting and minimizing losses. :D
Now I have this money freed up just in time to spend on hopefully two other pairs that will actually fit me this time! AND I still have the two shoe trees sitting in my closet ready for two new pairs of shoes! Sweet.

Awesome, I was looking for a pair of wingtips in a caramel brown the last few weeks. Going to print out the measuring guide and size my feet up. Hopefully they have something for me.

First some praise about the Allen Edmonds printable fit guide. It gave me an identical reading as the Brannock Device I used at my local Harry Rosen. So in that respect, it was great. Replicable results for science!

Where both failed though was in giving me the wrong size for my Allen Edmonds. Both indicated I needed 7D which seemed shockingly small considering I am not a tiny man. I normally wear a 9.5 sneaker, 8 in several pairs of boots I own, and 8 whenever I rent bowling shoes!

Like an idiot, I followed the Brannock Device and Allen Edmonds fit guide verbatim. Going by that size, I tried on several pairs of Allen Edmonds at that size and noticed they were rather tight.

The sales rep said, "That's how they're supposed to be". So I blindly/stupidly conceded to the collective force of all three things telling me my size is 7D and eventually accepted it, not knowing better or not trusting my gut like I do when I buy other shoes.

When I got home later that night and looked at the list of available factory seconds, I figured I'd size up to a 7.5D and that would solve my problems. So I ordered my two pairs in 7.5D. When they arrived, I noticed they were also tight. Not only that, the instep didn't come close together like they're supposed to. Here are the pics:

shoe-porn-thread-post-pics-your-shoes-f ... st15640234

So that's why I sold them a couple weeks ago.

SCREW EVERYTHING, I am going for size 8E and want to be comfortable this time, and want to actually be able to WEAR the shoes, for pete's sake. I have wide canoe paddles for feet and no Brannock Device is going to tell me I have dwarfishly small feet.

Had the same issue. When you print make sure the "scaling" setting is at "none", as oppossed to the often default setting of "scale to fit".

Here's a list of size 10 D shoes AE currently has. If anyone could provide me a list with size 10 E shoes, I would really appreciate it! AE is being very slow with e-mails for me, and I'd like to snatch a pair or two for my father for Christmas.

(This list is from a week ago).

How do you go about doing this? Do they sell every style they have on their website as factory seconds? Do we just email them to see what styles they have? This is pretty confusing without any instructions.

Wow, fast reply from Allen Edmonds Shoebank. Here are the current availabilities for size 8E. Subject to change by the time you read this, obviously. ;) Now I'll just have to visit my local Harry Rosen to confirm this is my most comfortable fitting size. I like the choices. Anyone know what the "Brooks" designation on some of the styles represent? Are they special collaboration editions between Allen Edmonds and Brooks Brothers?

Very tempted but I'm going to sit this one out. They have sales like this 2-3 times a year and I rather wait until closer to Spring so I don't have to worry about ruining them in the salty streets in winter.
