Am I overpaying for web hosting?

I registered for a domain & hosting with HostPapa for my mechanic shop. It's light traffic, mostly just used for the google search results and the "contact us" form.

After my promotion year ended, I renewed it on their business plan for around $550 for 3 years of domain + hosting.

I sent an email to complain and they offered me a one-time 20% discount on my next web-hosting renewal (in September), which brings it from $500 to $400 on a 36-month term.

Should I accept their discount or should I port-out and get a discount somewhere else?

Thanks for the help.

If it’s just a simple static site, based on maybe traffic, you should be able to host it from free to virtually free. Something like netlify, github pages, AWS, etc.

Make sure your contract say cancellation is possible, also there may be a penalty fee.

haha yep, you are definitely over paying.

You are paying 180 / year, that's $15 per month for a simple site.

Take a look at buywebhosting.ca, $10 - $20 / year

That seems steep. The key thing here as others mentioned is are you actually using all the resources in their "business" plan? Based on what you are saying it sounds like definitely not.

I'm with www.canspace.ca and I pay under $60 per year - and that's hosting about 5 domains. I think it would be even cheaper if I paid 3 years upfront.

Paying too much, you can review canspace.ca for Canadian pricing as a reference.

I'm using this ISP https://www.smarterasp.net/, I'm using the 7.95$ US/month plan, unlimited but I have only 1 or 2 sites. If you have only a static website, it's much easier.
For the domain, it's usually 12$ US/year or 30 CAD with Godaddy (I'm so lazy to move out from Godaddy, may be next time).
